this is my first time making a thread, so I’m a little nervous at making the first post…
so, about a week ago I was looking for a playlists/mixtape thread but couldn’t find one.
thanks to holey, I learned there was one. but it was locked. holey suggested it was a good idea to make a new one here in yesterday and today
so, if you have any Beatle-related playlists I would love to see what you have (and I may post a proper one later)
a few soft rules:
1. It must contain at least a few songs by the Beatles (and/or by individual Beatles) it is the main Beatles section of the forum after all
2. there’s gotta be some kind of theme or flow to them.
3. tell us about the construction of your playlist
under the spoiler is 3 examples of formats, but you can really approach this as you see to be the most fun:
format 1: the single – 2 tracks only
format 2: the EP – 3 to 6 tracks
format 3: single LP – 10 to 14 tracks
these formats are divided into 2 sides
As a quick example, here’s an EP format playlist I made a while back, it does not have a name:
side 1:
1. Hey Jude – love version
2. Sgt Pepper ‘s lonely hearts club band (reprise) – love version
3. day in the life – love version
side 2
6. the end – Anthology 3 version
not really much special in this list but I mostly picked them because of how they flowed into each other. the love version of Hey Jude flows into the love version of pepper and the original version of pepper reprise flowed into A Day In The Life .
since I have this list in my Spotify, I have no side to turn over so once you get lost in the E major I thought it would be nice to flow into Golden Slumbers and build up again through the course of that song. I kinda felt would be hard to separate that from the remainder of the medley since I’m going just for flow. but I thought I would mix the medley up by using the Anthology 3 version of the end. it does have a more abrupt start following Carry That Weight but I like the call back to A Day In The Life at the last bit.
I would love to see what kind of mixes you’ve all constructed. be it short, long, quiet, loud and anything in between please post it below.

you said it does have songs by the beatles, so i’m gonna allow it. because the thread is on the main beatles section of the forum, it will have to atleast have a couple songs by a beatle or by the beatles but it doesn’t have to be 100% beatles (unless a moderator hops in later and says “yes it does or we’ll have to move it into all together now”) i edited the first post to reflect that

I have quite a few beatles related playlists on my Spotify. Some of them are longer than an LP format, but whatever, I’ll just include a bunch of them.
Beatles Sloop:
This is a collection of Beatles songs that are soft enough to sleep to, for when i want to sleep to beatles and not just loop Girl.
Summer Beatles
Beatles songs that remind me of Summer. Never took the time to properly order this, so probably a good one to shuffle.
Beatles Rockers:
Pretty self-explanatory. Another one to put on shuffle.
Now onto the ones I liked enough to make public. The next 3 would also count as LP format I believe.
2 side White Album :
This was incredibly painful to make, and I can’t say I’ve listened to this at all since because I miss the songs I left out too much, but it’s always an interesting exercise to try out.
With The Beatles Concept Album:
Someone else on reddit came up with the idea of a With the Beatles concept album, and I liked it except I thought they placed You Really Got A Hold On Me too early, so I made my own playlist with that order.
ReverSoul
Combo album where half the songs are from Rubber Soul and half are from Revolver , I also tried to have the track list alternate as much as possible. Disclaimer: I didn’t like I’m Only Sleeping as much when I made thus, but if I redid this now, I would include that song.
Now onto miscellaneous (some beatles some not).
Melancholy:
3/30 songs are Beatles. I actually start the playlist with I Feel Fine which may seem counterintuitive, but always thought that song had a twinge of sadness, and it seems like a good way to get into it.
Brave New World
3/17 songs are Beatles. Made this as an english assignment for the book by Aldous Huxley (thought the book was awful by the way, dreadfully boring which makes me nitpick the things I wouldn’t otherwise care about). The playlist was pretty fun to make though.
And with that I am done.

I don’t have a list to share at the moment, but this does get to an idea that’s been floating around in my head lately.
There are some songs that I like out of the context of their album, but I don’t like them in their place on their album. Oh! Darling is one of them.
Are there songs that you like when they aren’t in the context of where they are on their original album?

there were a few tracks here and there that I felt were difficult to listen to as part of the album and I didn’t fully appreciate until i listened to them on their own. Lovely Rita I always thought it was good, but recently learned I liked it way more without the context of listening to pepper as a whole.
Ahhhh Girl, if you could put any other track in the catalog (anthology and other official releases from later included) what would you use to replace Oh! Darling with, in the album?

I don’t like how What Goes On fits between Michelle and Girl, but it’s a lot better on it’s own. Dizzy Miss Lizzy is also pretty good when it’s not ruining the ending of Help !

what if you swapped Dizzy Miss Lizzy with You’re Gonna Lose That Girl. it picks up the pace after Yesterday but isn’t so loud that it is jarring after yesterday. and, Dizzy Miss Lizzy isn’t a half bad way to follow Another Girl . i just made a playlist with those changes. i might mess with help’s track order a little more later. but for now here is the album with the changes mentioned:

Let’s stick Nowhere Man in there.

putting Maxwell’s Silver Hammer Nowhere Man and octopus garden in my spotify queue. I didn’t expect it to flow together well because of how the beatles styles changed between Rubber Soul and Abbey Road , but the harmonies at the end of maxwell make a great jumping-off point into the harmonies at the beginning of Nowhere Man . and the seconds of silence at the end of Nowhere Man allows it to flow well into anything. this is pretty cool.

I actually don’t mind oh darling in the album. but I what I really do not like in Abbey Road is Maxwell’s Silver Nightmare Hammer. so after I tried your Nowhere Man replacement, I experimented with what could be a good replacement for maxwell. and I think I found one.
I decided to have the rule for my replacing tracks playlists be “it must be written or sung by the same beatle” (I’m only applying this rule to myself, not to others or to the thread) so I decided to look for another paul song. and I remembered that at one point Paul wanted Junk or Teddy Boy to be on Abbey Road . I experimented with the anthology versions of both, and I liked junk more. but, I thought the anthology version wasn’t quite finished enough compared to something and oh darling. so i tried the McCartney album version of Junk and I think it flowed in better between something and oh darling.

No I’m just dumb and haven’t checked that playlist in forever (and female btw). Actually I may have just been deciding which placement would be best. So yeah idk share your thoughts on which one is better.

I have a 2 side White Album playlist somewhere on my computer. I’ll find it later.
while I was falling asleep last night, I did have an idea for a single-format playlist. most before-i-fall-asleep ideas aren’t very good, but I had fun thinking this up. hypothetical time: Imagine for a moment that McCartney 1 wasn’t released. And instead of breaking up they took a break after Let It Be came out until January ’72. and in January ’72 the boys released a single. during this break, there was still some animosity and they put that animosity into their songwriting. so from that animosity, the first single after the break the mindblowing double A-side how do you sleep / too many people.
now granted, someone will come along and say “those songs got written because of X-thing that only happened because of the breakup” or “the breakup was inevitable, there was no way they would take a break after all that had happened”, that’s probably true but i thought of it as i was falling asleep and it’s just for fun.
what do you folks think of the idea?
