I’ve started my Beatles Vinyl collection on Friday!Ok, so far I haven’t got an actual Beatles record but I got Wings At The Speed Of Sound , Ringo, and Venus And Mars on vinyl in a second-hand shop in Copenhagen for less than 5 Euro all in all!
Especially Ringo has been a great listen, and the cover is full of details and there is also a booklet with beautiful drawings of Klaus Voorman, all together lead to me being lost in another world for about half an hour.
I like that little detail on the front cover with what seems to be a Latin motto (but is really a pun):
Duit on Mon Dei
(I lost the booklet years ago, however…)

@Martha @Pineapple Records You might be interested in my interview with Tim Bruckner, who did the cover artwork for Ringo. He talks about ‘Duit on mon dei’, among other things.

Thanks Joe, Bruckner provided some fascinating glimpses into the post-Beatles lives of Ringo and John. And that bit about going to a silent film of Lon Chaney in The Phantom of the Opera with Harry Nilsson was interesting. But what did he mean about the film “with the hand colored section”…?

In the 1925 original and 1930 dubbed version of the film, @Pineapple Records, around 17 minutes of colour footage – mainly of the opera performances – shot using Process 2 Technicolor with the “Handschiegl color process” was included. These prints were rare at the time as few cinemas could show them. None are now known to exist. One scene, “Bal Masqué”, does still exist in colour, and has been reincorporated into some issues after various different restorations over the years.
I would think he is referring to seeing a version with the “Bal Masqué/Technicolor-Handschiegl” sequence restored.

Actually, the 2 strip technicolor process and the Handschiegl hand coloring process are 2 different things. The former was used for the Bal Masque scene as well as some other lost scenes while the latter was used for the following scene where it is tinted blue but the phantom is hand colored red, the version with the hand coloring is lost but has been recreated with digital colorization techniques.
To get this thread back on topic, when I used to collect records when I was younger I had Sgt. Pepper ‘s Lonely Hearts Club Band and 1967-1970. Last year I also got Magical Mystery Tour the UK EP from a relative which was really weird but sadly it warped and had to be thrown out.

@Sound One, what was the number of your record. I failed to get that information written down before I merged your question to this thread.
EDIT: meanmistermustard had the number so I put it in the above post. When I get time, I’ll see if I can find any info on the album. Maybe someone else will beat me to it. I have an interesting reference question to work on with a patron at the moment.

I have a mono copy bought second-hand for £2 in Beanos in the mid-80s. Also got an orginal stereo copy for about the same price there.
My first copy was a new Music for Pleasure stereo edition bought in 1981 for £1.99.

A pretty cool addition to my Beatles collection bought yesterday:
A 12″ single including Love Me Do (Andy White version) and P.S. I Love You on the A side and Love Me Do (Ringo version) on the B side, released in 1982 to coincide with the 20th anniversary of the original single. I love how Parlophone remade the original label and everything!

OK, I couldn’t figure out how to post a proper pic, so here’s a quick video. I probly acquired less than 20 pieces of Beatles vinyl total between 1971 and 1987, when CDs first appeared, and none since…and I currently own almost none of them. But I do have this one cool little unique item…

Cool records! I saw some like that online once, some very detailed Pink Floyd ones that were made into clocks or something.

Carolina accents are a gift to the world!
I actually met a guy from NC a few years back – he can be glimpsed in my “Birthday ” video, incidentally – and he had trouble understanding me; I speak kinda fast.

I could probably understand you fine, I’m not that Southern. NC actually has a lot of Yankees who escaped high property taxes and generally people-from-elsewhere in it.

D’you suppose the vinyl would still play? (obviously there’d be a lot of random instanced of the music cutting out but I wonder if it would work at all…)

The grooves themselves look playable still – I think it’d play in the spots where vinyl still exists. I’m a bit surprised the creators cut up a seemingly playable album…but it was just one disc of a double-vinyl set oruginally
