* Beatlefan post, with YouTube link, about Broken Bells’ performance on Letterman last night of “And I Love Her “:
For their tribute, Brian Burton and James Mercer combined “And I Love Her ” with a loop of Ringo Starr ‘s original beats from “I Am The Walrus .” The performance also featured a video montage of Starr drumming which was then edited together to sync up with Burton and Mercer’s hybridized cover.
* I posted a few days about Julian curating the Morrison Hotel tribute to the Fab 50 anniversary. Here’s a Wall Street Journal article about him.
* Five pairs of seats from DC’s Uline Arena are being raffled as a benefit. Tix can be purchased online for $20.

I know the name Julie Taymor from that expert panel. Gotta check.
Oh, right, duh. She did Across The Universe .
That performance of And I Love Her was fantastic, the drums worked well too. The Drive My Car one was, um…. not as fantastic.

It was fine, but Broken Bells set a high bar.
Hollywood Bowl has announced three concerts celebrating the 50th anniversary of Beatles at the Bowl, August 22-24. Dave Stewart is the ringmaster and musical director.
Wondering what are the odds Paul and Ringo might be among the special guests one of those days.

Broken Bells also did an interview about The Beatles. I don’t know if you have posted or not, parlance, because I didn’t see it, but I also didn’t want to double post.

That Beatlefan post had links to both the performance and interview, so I let it be my catch-all link. But, thanks, it bears mentioning it’s a great interview with Paul Shaffer, and he gets Danger Mouse to talk a bit about the Grey Album.

Anyone know who’s performing on letterman tonight and the rest of the week?
According to the Billboard article, Lenny Kravitz tonight.
Also is Paul going on tour this year? haven’t heard any news yet?
I’m sure he is. He tends not to announce until closer to the actual dates.

Thanks Sky and Parlance! Wonder what he’s going to perform? I’d bet a John song or a co-written. Also he loved John’s Plastic Ono Band LP which helped him for his first solo album.
Yeah, it’s gotta be a John song. Especially when the two performed so far were both Paul songs. I’d bet Kravitz does a Paul song too, he croons. Might do something like Let It Be .

I stand corrected. He did pretty great on that though. Now I’d bet there’s more Lennon, probably the next two nights, definitely from Sean.
Question though. While watching that video, I noticed the bassist appeared to be playing with B (7th fret on E string) and E (7th on A)
This is interesting because I play (and I believe Paul plays) A (5th on E) and D (5th on A). I’d assume they’re just playing a different key, but I’m not good enough to tell by ear. Anyone know?

I wonder why no John songs yet. I mean Drive My Car was co-written but mainly Paul. Off topic, I saw Patti Smith live and she did an awesome cover of Beautiful Boy. Also saw previews of Adam Levine performing for the 50th anniversary special. Yuck doesn’t even write his own material. Does anyone know if Clapton is involved at all? Or the Stones? Does anyone know information of the performers for the special?
