Paul news: [x-posted at the New album thread]
* Many reports of Paul’s flash mob concert today. This page at the maccaboard is a nice roundup of fan reports and media. Also a report and photo at Beatlefan’s Facebook from someone who was tipped off in advance.
* meanmistermustard posted:
Paul’s scheduled to appear on The Graham Norton Show on BBC1 a week Friday (18th October) between 10:35pm and 11:20pm, it will then be available on the iplayer for a limited time.
* Standard article on the story behind “New”‘s hidden track, “Scared.”
The legendary former Beatle admitted he was a little shy when he first started seeing Nancy Shevell in 2007 and only plucked up the courage to tell her how he felt in a song.
He told The Sun: “It can be quite hard to say ‘I love you’ to someone. I felt this with Nancy but to say it wasn’t that easy.”
Live At The BBC 2 news:
* WogBlog posted an image of the 14-track sampler.

It’s all Paul news this evening:
* From the Morning Advertiser: the album will be playing this Sunday in 208 pubs across the UK. I never thought I’d see the words “special collectible Paul McCartney beer mats” strung together, but there you are.
[BTW, if you do get an extra beer mat, I will gladly trade for an LA listening event poster.]
* From The Examiner, news of a radio special and digital billboards campaign:
Clear Channel announced Oct. 11 in a press release it will broadcast an audio special for Paul McCartney ‘s “New” album over its national affiliate radio stations and also launch a digital billboard campaign in 18 countries including the U.S.

* Nikki Sixx’s site has been posting highlights from his interview with Paul.
* Angie and Ruth McCartney (Paul’s stepmother and stepsister) are hosting an evening called The Magical History Tour at The Good Life Festival in Orlando, FL. Some details from The Maricopa Monitor:
Angie and Ruth McCartney will host two special engagements at Encanterra besides The Magical History Tour. Up to 30 guests will have a chance to enjoy tea with the McCartneys before the show, and after the show, 10 guests will be able to enjoy a private gourmet dinner and wine pairings (must be age 21 and older).

* Paul interview with German TV, summarized at The Examiner. He talks about touring in Europe in 2014 and writing music as a therapeutic process.
* Guardian article/interview with Paul. A few items of note are the intro:
Sir Paul McCartney continues to be worshipped abroad, while we too often treat him as an embarrassing uncle. Now an exciting new album has brought him back home. He invites Miranda Sawyer round to his studio for a chat about the Liverpool that shaped him – and how he fell in love with Nancy
And the story of how he met Nancy:
They met in a surf shop in Long Island: McCartney was on holiday, cycling around, looking for sun cream. The reason they both had tears in their eyes was that Nancy had known Linda, Paul’s first wife.
“Out Of The Blue , I met this girl and we started talking and she happened to say, ‘I knew Linda.’ So that was emotional. I wouldn’t meet, typically, many people who knew Linda, and who knew her during her cancer treatment – and Nancy did. She’s a cancer survivor herself. So it got very deep, very quickly, and it was like, ‘What the hell was that?’ And then I ran into her a couple of more times on the holiday, and we got to know each other and started dating. So the song is about that, about this depth of emotion, of feeling – but totally being scared to say or do anything about it. Like a tongue-tied teenager.”
And a bit about his relatives:
He tells me a sad story about his uncle Harry, who, with his brother, had to go to the Bluecoat School, a live-in school for orphans, because his mum could only afford to keep her daughter. “So Harry and his brother never saw their mother except on a Sunday, where she came to the church service, and they weren’t officially allowed to turn around and look at her. Though they did.” Harry learnt Shakespeare at Bluecoats, and used to recite it to Paul.
“I get quite emotional about that, because I have met Thatchers and Blairs and Obamas and Clintons… and each of them has got some kind of greatness. But to me, I respect these old Liverpool people. My dad, my uncle Harry, who loved Shakespeare. Bert, my cousin, became a crossword compiler because my dad taught him to love crosswords.”

* You can hear a sample of the Japanese-only CD track “Struggle” by going here and choosing Struggle (track no. 15). You’ll have to change your country to Japan. Make sure to change back to your home country afterward – the link will be at the bottom of the iTunes store, but now in Japanese. [x-posted to the “New” album thread]
* According to the Hollywood Reporter, Benedict Cumberbatch will play Brian in the movie version of “The Fifth Beatle!” I’m really excited now! Sherlock’s Paul McGuigan will direct. [x-posted to the new thread for The Fifth Beatle movie]
Edit: The above is a year-old article that was posted on FB as if it were new, so I have no idea what’s happening with this film now, sorry.

Paul news:
* Someone noticed that Paul registered a bunch of songs at ASCAP that aren’t on the new release, and the Macca Report compiled a list of unverified tracks.
* Really cute interview with Paul for NPR’s “All Things Considered.” You can download and view a transcript at the link:
ROBERT SIEGEL: But I mean, Sir Paul McCartney , I mean, you have had success in so many dimensions of music. You really feel a competitive insecurity with somebody else who’s coming out with a record.
MCCARTNEY: Unfortunately, yes. I think one thing that’s good about it is, I think it’s a good motivator. I think it keeps you hungry. I think the minute you’re full up and have had enough to eat, then that’s time to retire. But I agree with you. You know, I should be able to look at my accolades and go: Come on, Paul, that’s enough. But there’s still this little voice in the back of my brain goes: No, no, no, you could do better. This person over here is excelling. Try harder. It still can be a little bit intimidating. You know?
* The Bang & Olufsen event, edited to about a half-hour.
* This was posted 11 hours ago, for a chance to win a wristband to Paul’s signing at HMV on Friday. Hopefully either you saw this already or there’s still time:

Via The Examiner, Rolling Stone is streaming an a version of “Wonderful Christmastime ” of a capella group Straight No Chaser using the original vocals
I love them and I love what they did with it! Though I’m curious how a modern-day collaboration with Pentatonix would have sounded. They’d probably do an amazing version of “Appreciate.”
