The hit song in the movie, amazingly titled “That Thing You Do”, is incredibly catchy.
And heres the Lumberjack Song (another incredibly catchy song) from the Concert for George, see if you can spot Tom. And if you cant be bothered doing that just enjoy.

“That Thing You Do” is actually from Fountains of Wayne, the same band that did another incredibly catchy song about a decade ago, “Stacy’s Mom.”

A tribute to Paul’s friend, Rose Martin, has been posted at his site:
“We had sad news recently that our dear friend Rose Martin passed away at the age of 92. Rose was my housekeeper since the early 60s and for many years looked after us and our children. She was a very classy lady with a mischievous sense of humour. She was fiercely loyal and our family and many friends will miss her dearly.”
Paul McCartney , September 2013
I feel like I’ve read references to her in books, but I can’t remember where.

Found a couple of references that helped jog my memory about Rose Martin:
From a discussion at the Macca Board [quoting one poster, then another]:
According to Bill Harry’s “The Paul McCartney Encyclopedia”, it was Rose Martin (Paul and Linda’s housekeeper) who was the inspiration for the album title “Red Rose Speedway “.
_____
Coincidentally that piece of info also originated from an early Wings Fun Club newsletter although Paul would later deny this explanation.
And this story – not a nice one at all, and take it with a grain of salt – from a Jimmy McCulloch page (I read a variation in one of the Paul bios):
On one of our off days, while in Australia, we decided to take a visit to a zoo and as we were about to leave, the McCartney’s house keeper, Rose Martin had just arrived and she was prepared for the day, with a new hair style and a camera and then suddenly Linda, in front of everybody, announced that Rose wasn’t invited. She had a list of things for the house keeper to do. I felt really bad for Rose because Linda just dissed her hardcore. Everybody felt really bad for Rose, except Linda of course. JoJo, Denny Laine’s girlfriend at the time, wasn’t really that surprised that the incident happened however. She said that Rose had told her how “lady like and gracious” Paul’s former fiancee, Jane Asher was and that she wouldn’t like to repeat the things that Rose used to say about Linda.

* Via Beatles News, A piece of wood carved by John with the original Sexy Sadie lyrics is being auctioned.
The piece of wood with the original words carved by Lennon, topped with the inscription “the private mind of John Lennon “, was kept by Ringo Starr ’s ex-wife Maureen Starkey before being acquired by a collector. The memento is expected to fetch £150,000 when it goes up for auction later this month (September 23) at Fame Bureau. Ted Owen of the auction house said: “It is a piece of wood that nearly broke up the Beatles. John Lennon wanted to release the Maharishi version as a single but George Harrison said, “no way” and Paul McCartney convinced them to keep the song but change the lyrics.”

* WogBlog reports on a 14-track sampler of Live At The BBC Vol. 2 release.
* The New York Times has an analysis on the BBC Vol. 2 release:
When Capitol Records released “The Beatles Live At The BBC ” to great fanfare in 1994, Beatles collectors lamented that the two-disc set barely scratched the surface of the vast trove of recordings the band made for the BBC between March 1962 and June 1965. Many of those radio recordings were already on a 10-disc bootleg set, after all, and in the 19 years since then, bootleggers have come up with another three discs’ worth of material.
But Capitol and Apple, the Beatles’ own label, are determined to catch up. “On Air – Live At The BBC Volume 2,” another two discs, will be released Nov. 11. It will include 63 tracks, including 40 songs and 23 spoken segments, with interviews, introductions and studio banter. A remastered version of the 1994 set will be released at the same time.

From The Examiner:
Author says Beatles talked doing films with Zeffirelli, Godard, McGoohan
In a new BBC Radio 4 Beatles radio special, “Celluloid Beatles,” that premiered Sept. 14 and is available online for a week, Beatles historian and author Mark Lewisohn reveals the Beatles considered making films with directors Franco Zeffirelli, Jean-Luc Godard and Patrick McGoohan, star of the cult favorite TV series, “The Prisoner.”
More at the link. We know that Paul was approached for Zeffirelli’s “Romeo and Juliet,” but he declined. I think it was in MYFN that he talked about it.
