This may, or may not, have a Beatles element to it. For those with access to BBC1, tonight at 10:35 they are showing last year’s highly-rated cinema documentary McCullin about famed British war photographer Don McCullin. I do not know if it has a segment about 1968’s Mad Day Out – of which he was the photographer – but looks to be a fascinating documentary about the most unlikely of photographers to be requested by The Beatles to capture them on film.

Either way, and as I said, I’m not sure, McCullin is a fascinating and interesting character – probably the most important British photo-journalist of the 1960s. Certainly one of those largely forgotten ’60s character who I’d like to know more about. I know that some of his war photographs are among the most iconic of the decade. And maybe he’ll talk a little about his MDO in amongst all the other madness.

^ Oh definitely, without a doubt. Wasn’t he the one that took the photos used in the film ‘Blowup’, as well? He’s a name that doesn’t crop up as often as it should, I think.

* Ringo’s recorded a video asking us to share in a moment of peace and love at noon our time on his birthday, July 7.
* Jeff Lynne (producer of “Free As A Bird ” and “Real Love “) will be getting a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame next year to coincide with the 40th anniversary of ELO.
* Kenwood’s up for sale if you happen to have $20 million laying around.

I’m proud to say I am one of those who have done it over the past 3 years. I am also happy it is on a weekend day again this year.
In 2010 and 11 it was on a work day and I got some odd looks form co-workers. At home, I am used to getting looked at oddly. My wife says she just stopped asking because she knows it’s something Beatley.
I think one of the coolest things about this is the fact that it will be going on for most of the day since people are encouraged to do it at noon wherever they are. It almost makes one want to travel from time zone to time zone…almost.
Anyway, hope you all join me on Sunday…at noon…wherever you are.

Thanks for that, parlance. A great account of the meeting, and gives nice context to the circumstances he commented on Let It Be in. It doesn’t sound like it was the stock answer to a question asked in a brief fan encounter. And when asked recently, didn’t Ringo say something like “Tomorrow,” in response to the LIB question. And we just thought he was joking. Not yet holding my breath, but could it be that it could appear soon (say, within the next couple of years!).

Very welcome. I had been reading rumors of a release of LIB finally being more than a pipe dream. It’s nice to hear about that confirmation from Paul.

That’s great news, though I’ve watched LIB already a gazillion times (okay not really, watched it twice, wasn’t that special)
I wonder if they’ll change anything about it.

Astrid’s publishing an scrapbook on the internet of some of her unseen Hamburg photos. There was a lovely interview with her in today’s Times- nothing she hasn’t said before really, but she has some amazing, sweet memories of them all.

A new musical in LA’s Valley area, The Stars of Beatlemania, offers an alternate universe “what if” perspective:

Won’t be going myself, it’s too expensive.
But, separately, would it make sense to start a new thread at Yesterday … and Today dedicated to the many plays and musicals about The Beatles? It seems like there’s one cropping up in London, NY or LA every month.

^^ Well, since no one responded, I won’t bother with creating a separate theater thread. I’ll just keep the posts here.

If I ever got anywhere near Paul i’d either be too embarrassed and not want to hassle him or fall over in the foetal position gibbering away before being carted off and placed in a padded white room with a straightjacket.
