a-hard-days-night-ringo-8 I will definitely add this to the list of places I plan to visit next year. Before then I’ll be asking for UK driving tips from those in the know here on the forum. One great disappointment of my recent travels was not being able to get comfortable driving on the left. I have always planned to spend several months driving around both England and Ireland, but after two weeks in the Scottish Highlands with a rental car I totally lost my nerve. Even though there was almost no traffic I could not relax, as the task required 100% focus. I’m talking no conversation, no music, no wind in my hair, etc… Scotland was amazing but driving wasn’t fun and we changed our travel plans accordingly, since I was not up for any more of it. Hopefully I can figure it out next time…

Some of the Scottish Highland roads are absolutely mental. The scenery is beautiful, which doesn’t help, as it’s hard to look when single sheep are randomly hidden behind deadly bends where one wrong steer and your car is stuck pointing up from a field with no phone signal to call for help and no-one anywhere near you.

^My brother had an interview in Inverness a few years ago. I think him and Dad flew to Glasgow and they went to the car rental place where they had paid for a Ford Focus or something similar. The rental guy asked them where they were going and when he heard the answer he said “Jesus you’ll have trouble getting there in the Focus”, so he upgraded them to a 4×4 for free.

Indeed they had fun driving there but the Highlands are similar to the Gaeltacht areas here, a lot of hills, pitiful rocky mountains and stray sheep hanging around on the road, so it’s not unknown territory for us.

Us Scots are very friendly and caring; it was probably for the benefit of the hirer as return the car scratched and it’s time for some broken legs and a demand for many thousands of pounds to repair the damage.

Spill a scotsman’s pint and it’s full-on war.

[The clip in the spoiler below does contain some very strong language and violence so if you are offended by such and/or have not seen ‘Trainspotting’ please do not watch it. If you are someone who likes to be offended and seeks such opportunities out, you are most welcome to watch.]

Thanks for the encouraging words a-hard-days-night-ringo-10. Yes, I saw lots of sheep! (Even saw sheep playing games with rabbits). I have some hope again that my long planned driving excursions are still possible.heart

As part of Record Store Day this year (18 April) we’re getting a 7″-inch from JohnInstant Karma ! (2020 Ultimate Mixes):

Audio is newly mixed from the original multi-tracks and artwork is a faithful reproduction of the original UK sleeve.

and a 50th anniversary vinyl release of McCartney (originally released 17 April):

To mark the 50th anniversary of the album’s release, the album will be re-issued on 180 gram black vinyl as a half-speed master cut done at Abbey Road and includes a certificate indicating as such, plus an obi strip on the cover denoting the 50th anniversary.

meanmistermustard will be barely able to contain his excitement. a-hard-days-night-george-10

Wonder what time I will have to get in line this year?

Would you x-post this news to the Record Store Day thread?

I posted about the ‘McCartney’ album in its thread with my complete lack of interest on show.

Some folk are taking the release of ‘IK’ as a sign that a 50th anniversary ‘JL/POB’ is coming. With so many random Record Day releases I don’t think it’s that straightforward.

I never can figure out why this place fascinates me so much. I used to think it happened because I was staring at the cover the first time I listened to the album, thus the music, lyric and the visual implanted in my psyche.

You know that I care
What happens to you
And I know that you care
For me too

So I don’t feel alone
Or the weight of the stone
Now that I’ve found somewhere safe
To bury my bone
And any fool knows a dog needs a home
A shelter from pigs on the wing

On the other hand, it may have been having a deja vu from the HELP! movie. I put a link to the movie in the spoiler, in case you don’t remember the scene. It’s at 103:37

https://videa.hu/videok/film-animacio/help-beatles-1965-teljes-film-vigjatek-zenes-ophCGMYbecOc7sO9

Here are some highlights:

30:50 Intermission

32:20 Paul’s exciting adventure on the floor

43:06 It’s a fiendish thingy!

48:14 I Need You

103:37 Battersea Power Plant of Pink Floyd fame

108:48 In 1965 disguise (but close to how they looked a few years later)

Wogblog reports on an interview with Dhanni and Olivia on possible releases from George’s archives covering the 1974 tour and 50th anniversaries for ‘ATMP ‘ and ‘LITMW‘

Dhani says he is asked on a regular basis about his father’s controversial 1974 tour more than any of Harrison’s other undertakings. Dhani says he’s listened back to tapes of all the shows and agrees that his father wasn’t in the best of voice, but still feels the shows revealed another aspect of George’s music. “His voice is pretty tired, but in my opinion, it sounds great,” he says. “It’s raspy, and it has grit to it. You can hear the fragility in all the songs. It’s a different take on a lot of his music.” Olivia says several of the shows were also filmed, onstage and offstage, and the material has the makings of a documentary. “I think it would make a great tour movie,” she says. “The backstage footage is amazing and hysterical. Things went on backstage that don’t happen now. Now everything is so cut and dried, the opposite of spontaneous.”

The mother and son team also hinted at forthcoming 50th anniversary editions of George’s “All Things Must Pass ” and “Living In The Material World ” albums: The company’s archival research has also turned up a trove of unissued George Harrison material. “We have people digging through mountains of tapes, and they keep coming,” says Dhani. “Boxes and boxes of them.” This year marks the 50th anniversary of All Things Must Pass , and Dhani and his archivists have unearthed hours of unreleased material and unheard songs from those sessions. “A lot of it has been bootlegged, but we have better versions,” says Olivia. “We have all the 24-tracks of All Things Must Pass , and we found lots of different takes and talking in the studio.”

Plenty to get excited about and not one half-speed LP in sight.
