Concert for George is coming to theaters. Also for 350 dollars, you can own it on all formats plus have a book and a piece of the tapestry that was hanging behind the musicians during the concert.
Or, they have smaller packages available. I might buy the Blu-ray, since I have the DVD.

Paul is being awarded a prize by Israel.
http://m.jpost.com/Israel-News…..nts-542404
The Jerusalem Post
The Israeli Wolf Prize will be awarded at the end of May to nine laureates in the fields of music and science, including legendary British rocker Paul McCartney .
The Wolf Foundation announced on Monday that it selected McCartney – who will share the prize with conductor Adam Fischer – for being “one of the greatest songwriters of all time.” McCartney’s songs, the prize jury noted, “Will be sung and savored as long as there are human beings to lift up their voices.”
The nine laureates – in the fields of music, agriculture, physics, chemistry and mathematics – are invited to a special ceremony at the Knesset hosted by President Reuven Rivlin at the end of May.
The last line in the 2nd paragraph.
I wonder if Paul will attend the ceremony.
Other musicians who have been awarded this prize:
Placido Domingo
Jessey Norman
Murray Perahia
Sir Simon Rattle
Claudio Abbado
Giya Kancheli
Daniel Barenbiom
Mstislav Rostropovich
Pierre Boulez
Ricardo Muti
Gregory Ligeti
Rubin Mehta
Lucian Berio

Disappointed in that, myself. It wouldn’t be announced if he hadn’t agreed to accept, whether in person or not, and I wouldn’t accept any award (not that I’d be offered one) from the Israeli State while they continue to oppress the Palestinian people.
Many people reject the offer of awards from the Israel because of that. There’s a good chance Paul will get some criticism for his decision to accept.
(And, just in case anyone thinks I’m being anti-Semitic or anything, I have no problem with people of the Jewish faith, just a problem with the decades of injustice suffered by the Palestinians, and the Israeli State’s constant breaking of international law in an attempt to make the two-state solution impossible. You can have a problem with a State without having a problem with its citizens.)

Those are some great picture finds. Wouldn’t mind having the one of Mick and the Doors one as posters in my room! I also didn’t know that the car was in the Real Love video, I must go back and watch it.

@specialcup: haha, yeah, I noticed that. The John and Yoko one was from that film that was made in the ’80’s. I always enjoy reading Philip Norman’s views though.

No surprise of the errors considering how crap the Daily Mail is.
In other news from the Daily Mail, Danny Boyle reportedly has signed up as director of a new Beatles musical film to be written by Richard Curtis. Based on what has been written by the Daily Mail, “it is about a struggling musician who, for plot reasons as yet unknown, thinks he’s the only person who can remember the Fab Four.” .
I won’t be going to see it – if it ever comes out.

Vehicle auctioneer H&H Classics have announced they are putting up for auction John’s 1969 Honda “Monkey-Trail” Bike that was used to get around his Tittenhurst estate. Estimated at £30,000 (US$48,000) plus, the auction will take place on 4 March at The National Motorcycle Museum in Solihull. There are some photographs of the bike in the catalogue listing that aren’t included in the press release.
A similar “monkey bike” owned by Ringo sold for £36,000 in 2008.
The BBC report that it sold for a world record of £57,500 (roughly $79,000), the highest amount paid for a monkey bike at public auction, and almost double its estimate.

^The Danny Boyle musical is a film, not a staged-musical as I originally thought.
Surely they’ve seen how ‘Across The Universe ‘ got on in the box office? Budget of $70 million, only got back $30 million- shocking numbers. Don’t tell me they think there’s been some renewed spark in The Beatles since 2007 because if there has, I haven’t noticed it.
Also a lad from Eastenders has got the lead role, I’m sure he’ll be great, Eastenders always produces quality talent

The end of an era was announced today. The last of the UK’s weekly music papers, New Musical Express (NME), will run its last print edition on Friday, after trying to survive as a free paper since 2015. Of course, the website will continue, but it’s not the same.
This was the first issue 13-year-old Nasty bought (and still has in a box along with other publications from those dark days):
I would buy it religiously well into the Noughties. Sad to see its print demise.
Is it really Beatles News?
The NME was, in many ways, more associated with them than any other of the music weeklies. While Melody Maker had a claim to the early ’70s, with the exchange of letters and articles that saw John and Paul trading punches, the ’60’s belonged to NME. If only for the four NME Poll Winners Concert appearances, the last of which in May 1966 was their last before a paying public in the UK. In 1988, they were behind the multi-artist cover of Pepper, Sgt. Pepper Knew My Father, which resulted in the #1 double A-side: Wet Wet Wet – With A Little Help From My Friends /Billy Bragg with Cara Tivey – She’s Leaving Home .
Billy Bragg at #1! It still makes me chuckle.
Here’s some Sixties moments, some good, others not so…
(Sadly no performance from 1966, though there was one, because the cameras were turned off as Brian and ABC TV couldn’t come to terms).
Farewell, NME of the print era. You served us well.

Re, the NME. I find it strange when people comment about the demise of a newspaper, store, whatever and then reveal they didn’t buy it for years before. It was the same with Woolworths when so many were apparently gutted to see it go but hadn’t bought anything there for years.

To an extent I agree with this. However, I also think, to a degree, finding yourself moving on from something can be to do with no longer fitting the intended demographic.
I didn’t desert the music press, but instead found the monthlies (Mojo, Uncut, Q) catered more to my tastes than the weeklies, which were aimed at a younger audience – who were increasingly getting their fix online.
A comparable example would be BBC Radio One. Listened to it religiously through the ’80s and ’90s (was even interviewed on it in 1988). But as time passed, because the type of music enjoyed by its intended demographic changed, I found less there that appealed, and the music (and often DJs) I had so enjoyed there in the ’80s and ’90s started shifting across to Radio Two, with the addition of BBC 6 Music in the digital age.
Radio One didn’t stop serving its intended audience, I was just no longer part of its intended audience. That didn’t mean BBC radio stopped providing for my taste, just that they moved where my taste was catered for. That doesn’t mean I lose affection for Radio One for all it offered me when it was intended for me, and hope it still provides as good a service to those who now fit its demographic.
An example would be Mark (Radcliffe) and Lard (Marc Riley). Pivotal Radio One DJs of the ’90s Britpop era. They moved to Radio Two and BBC 6 Music respectively in 2004, and I followed them, accepting – as they did – that their audience was now elsewhere.
That I followed them to different stations doesn’t mean that the Radio One I found them on was a vital part of my life when I was part of the station’s demographic, nor diminish my hope it continues to offer the same to its intended demographic as it did when I was part of its intended demographic.

Thanks for sharing the NME images, @Ron Nasty. The ones featuring articles were interesting reads. I especially liked this one:
Paul’s optimism about Helen Shapiro’s liking the song ‘Misery ‘ made me chuckle, given what we know now.
To the fountain of perpetual mirth, let it roll for all its worth. And all the children boogie.
