Billboard interview with Pete Best about his upcoming acting début.

This bit amused me:

In 1988, I said I wasn’t going back into show business after doing a one-night performance. But here I am nearly 30 bloody years afterward still slugging away.

While Liverpool has granted planning permission for a development involving three apartment buildings called Fab 1, Fab 2 and Fab 3 in tribute to the group.

And The Beatles Story has added a Magical Mystery Tour  exhibit to celebrate its 50th Anniversary:

The Sunday editions of both The Sun and The Mirror are reporting that Ringo will receive a knighthood in the New Year’s Honours List announced next week. The award will be for services to music and charity.

Sir Richard Starkey, MBE!

If this does turn out to be true when the List is actually officially announced next Sunday, it’s about bloody time, Your Majesty!

Sad to see the usual moaners in the comments columns as more news organisations report the story.

It should be noted that if Ringo is about to become Sir Richard Starkey, MBE, then Barbara Bach will become Lady Starkey automatically.

There are no special privileges attached to being knighted correct?  A great honor for Ringo and well deserved for sure but why would there be moaners?

I don’t see how some people could have a problem with this. Does it somehow take away from Britain as a whole? Out of all the Knights in the world, you take issue with Ringo?

There are people who do not understand what Ringo has given to the world both musically and charitably. Weird, isn’t it. I don’t know how many great songs he has to play or lives to save before they’re satisfied, you’d have to ask them.

I’m glad the Christmas Record finally has been officially released. But maybe it’s 48 years too late? It should be interesting to hear from Apple why they didn’t officially released the LYN2153/2154 18 December 1970?

Forbes reports that the biggest selling record on vinyl in the US in 2017 was Sgt. Pepper  (72,000 copies), with Abbey Road  at #2 (66,000 copies).

Vehicle auctioneer H&H Classics have announced they are putting up for auction John’s 1969 Honda “Monkey-Trail” Bike that was used to get around his Tittenhurst estate. Estimated at £30,000 (US$48,000) plus, the auction will take place on 4 March at The National Motorcycle Museum in Solihull.

There are some photographs of the bike in the catalogue listing that aren’t included in the press release.

A similar “monkey bike” owned by Ringo sold for £36,000 in 2008.

@Ron Nasty  thanks for the Vevo clips! That “Lady Madonna ” clip is actually from the “Hey Bulldog ” shoot.

The camera people arrived too late to film Lady Madonna , so they settled for Hey Bulldog – and then simply used the footage over the Lady Madonna song; but Beatley people weren’t fooled.

Didn’t the Beatles all receive an MBE in 1965? – and Lennon returned his in ’69?

To pick up on @Into the Sky with Diamonds comments.

The film crew arrived exactly when they were expected. It was The Beatles decision that, rather than be filmed miming to a playback of LM, they wanted to use the studio time to record a new John song, and that the LM promo film could be made from that.

John did return his MBE insignia in 1969, however – whether he acknowledged it or not – he still remained a MBE. Once a honour has been accepted, it can only be revoked by the Government. The return of the insignia was purely a publicity stunt that had no effect on John being a MBE.

The medal was found in a cabinet in the Chancery Department of the Royal Household at St. James Palace, along with the letter, in 2009.

A Buckingham Palace spokesman confirmed the insignia had been located at the time, adding that they wouldn’t usually return an insignia after the death of the recipient, but would “consider releasing insignia if they had a direct approach from the recipient’s legal next of kin.”

It is unknown whether a request has been made.

An alternate version of the letter, with smudges, was discovered in 2016 and valued at £60,000.

Anyways, here’s some new news:

The Beatles Story are adding a “Beatles in India” in February, to celebrate the 50th anniversary of their time at Rishikesh:

“Beatles in India” will look at this key and relatively secretive part of the Beatles’ story with never-before-seen memorabilia, imagery and personal accounts from the people who were there with the band in 1968.

Paul is among those supporting a Parliamentary campaign to protect local venues from closure after redevelopment of an area.

Without the grassroots clubs, pubs and music venues my career could have been very different. If we don’t support music at this level, then the future of music in general is in danger.

And an interesting development regarding Facebook, Instagram and Oculus which may be of interest to users of those platforms here, Sony/ATV have reached a licensing deal which means that music they control the publishing of can now be used on those sites without fear of it being removed for copyright infringement.

The Beatles are among those whose publishing they have (even should Paul decide to move his when he gets his part of the copyright back, Yoko made the decision years ago to leave John’s share with Sony/ATV).
