Yeah I saw Sean’s posts on Twitter just now and am glad Yoko will be fine. I hadn’t heard anything about a stroke, just severe flu like symptoms.

Feel better, Yoko! yoko-ono_01

From the Now I’ve Heard Everything files, The Telegraph is running a story on how listening to The Beatles (among others) can cause you to age prematurely.

Songs about the negative connotations of growing old, like The Beatles’ When I’m Sixty-Four, could cause low self esteem and problems with cardiac health.

Here’s the link.

I read it yesterday and was going to post it in ‘Pet Peeves’ as its complete rubbish. The last I saw was a single slice of cucumber was bad for you whereas the last I heard was that experiencing joy was also dangerous to your health and well being.

Basically everything is now bad for you so don’t give a crap about all these pointless stupid studies and go enjoy yourself.

After the film of it fell through, it is being reported that Vivek Tiwary’s acclaimed graphic novel about Brian, The Fifth Beatles, is being developed into a “multi-part event series” for TV by Sonar Entertainment.

Tiwary will write and be the executive producer on the miniseries:

Brian Epstein’s story is rich in inspiration and is set amidst a backdrop of great cultural change and the legendary history of The Beatles, so an event series truly feels like the only way to do Brian justice.

We’re going to do wonderful things with the extra creative room afforded to us and I’m thrilled to be working with Sonar to take advantage of all the exciting elements this format has to offer.

Some time ago Henley-on-Thames proposed a statue in the town to remember longstanding resident George Harrison .

Olivia objected to the idea, saying – quite rightly – that George would be appalled.

Now a developer in the town has offered a triangle of land to the town if they deal with its upkeep. The mayor has suggested it become a memorial garden according to the local paper.

There seems to be local support for a memorial garden:

Councillor Lorraine Hillier suggested using the green triangle of land in Bell Street, which developer Chesterton Commercial has offered to the town council free of charge if it agrees to maintain it.

Speaking at a meeting of the council’s town and community committee, she said: “I would like to propose that the triangle is dedicated for a George Harrison memorial garden. We could plant a silver birch tree to tackle the pollution issues there.”

Deputy Mayor Julian Brookes agreed, saying: “We don’t have any memorials in the town for George Harrison , who lived here for 30 years. Perhaps he should be recognised.”

Councillor Ian Reissmann said: “I suggest that we agree in principle to approach the family to see whether they welcome it and whether they would work with us to improve that area and restore what is one of the most beautiful parts of the town.”

It would be right to me that the place George called home longer than anywhere else has some sort of permanent memorial to him, and a garden would be a very appropriate tribute to him.

Here’s hoping Olivia and Dhani see this as an appropriate way for the town to remember him. George liked gardens, and I can’t think of a better way to remember him.

Hear, hear! I can’t think of a more fitting tribute myself (I agree, a statue would be horrible).

I’ve been absent as of late, and I’m popping in on a sorrowful occasion. According to Ringo’s Twitter feed, George Martin has passed away. I came to commiserate in one of the few places where others will understand the grief. Rest in peace, dear sir.

George Martin’s final project was an upcoming eight-part television series for PBS called SOUNDBREAKING: Songs from the Cutting Edge of Music.

The series was his idea, and he was heavily involved in it. He said of it before his passing:

Music is the only common thread and universal language that binds us together regardless of race, nationality, age or income.

And, recorded music is how we experience it and what makes it accessible. Through the production of “SOUNDBREAKING,” I was afforded the opportunity to tell the story of the creative process of so many of the artists I have worked with throughout my life.

Obviously, his work with The Beatles will be a big part of it.

No broadcast dates are yet fixed, but I would expect it to appear later this year as it sounds as if it’s more-or-less finished.

The negatives of John and Yoko’s wedding pictures have been tracked down after 40 years. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/new…..s-ago.html

The article leaves me more than a bit puzzled. Were prints ever developed from the negatives for John and Yoko?

Nice find.

Since the pictures were stolen can’t they be returned to the original owner? And cant say i’m that surprised to see Geoffrey Giuliano be involved considering what some have written and said about him.

Prints of at least some were produced. They are the pictures that were used for The Wedding Album , and several were used in Anthony Fawcett’s book (one of my favourites on John and Yoko).

However, the full set of the negatives are hugely important. The sad thing is that the article says they have merely been tracked down, not that they have been recovered. We now know that they still exist but not where they are, or exactly who they are with. Hopefully with the knowledge that Giuliano is involved, pressure can brought to bear on him about everything he knows of their whereabouts.

You can watch John’s interview with Bob Harris on ‘The Old Grey Whistle Test’ on the BBC. It lasts 29 minutes 34 seconds and is well worth it, John looking like he was in a very comfortable happy place.

There are 9 other videos on the same linked page including Queen, Joan Baez, Bob Marley, The Jimi Hendrix Experience and Paul Simon.

I’ve never realized how small John’s lips are until I watched that interview. It was kind of distracting.

If I put this in the News thread, maybe it will help it come true.

Feeding Colorado petitions for license plate

Food bank association Feeding Colorado hopes to bring new meaning to “one plate at a time” with a new vanity license plate.

colorado-license-plate.jpgImage Enlarger

Featuring John Lennon ’s self-portrait and the word “Imagine ,” the license plate’s sales would bring local agriculture to Feeding Colorado’s five food banks, including Weld Food Bank, according to a news release.

Officials at the association have applied to the Colorado Department of Revenue, but they need the help of Colorado drivers. For the bill to proceed in the Colorado Senate, it requires 3,000 signatures from registered Colorado vehicle owners. Sen. John Cooke, R-Greeley, is sponsoring the bill.

Weld Food Bank Executive Director Bob O’Connor said the signatures would help fill more than license plates.

“The impact the ‘Imagine ’ license plate will have on our mission to fight hunger in Weld County will be significant. It is vital that we get these signatures,” he said in a news release.

Yoko Ono Lennon granted the use of John Lennon ’s self-portrait for the plate. The artist and activist was glad she could help.

Imagine is a great word to spread around, and I was happy to do this because it is helping a very important charity,” she said in the release.

The petition can be signed online at http://www.coloradoimagine.com or at the Weld Food Bank’s warehouse, 1108 H Street.
