I’m listening to Breakfast with the Beatles. They’re giving away tickets to Billy J. Kramer’s evening at the Grammy Museum, so Billy called in (he’s also performing tonight at McCabe’s in Santa Monica). Chris Carter asked him about Dee Elias, and Billy admitted she made him a bit nervous. Also, he said it wasn’t even his sock she returned, as it was nylon and he didn’t wear those in those days. Hmm…

Poor woman. I feel like I should hire myself out as a fandom consultant. I could give measured, reasonable advice to fans about approaching their favorites. I wonder if there’s a market…

Abbey Road on the River, which bills itself as the largest Beatles festival, is in Louisville Kentucky May 21-25.  Besides about 40 tribute bands, movie showings, etc, Julia Baird (John’s half sister) is going to be there this year.  Last year Freda made a surprise appearance and gave a 2 hour interview. It might be closer than 7 hours for some of you, and if you come on the 24th-25th maybe we could meet up. What lines were all pretty short).  Really a great scene.  One day tix are only $20 through the end of February, I thimpressed me the most, and left me in a great mood for several days, is the tremendous “peace and love” atmosphere. I think the hotel is 140/night and the front door opens inside the festival so you don’t have to do a lot of walking.  I could go on about how cool it is, but I’ll just say you won’t regret attending.

I’m psyched! I just got our tickets for the Louisville festival (Abbey Road on the River).  In addition to Julia Baird, they announced last week that Louise Harrison will also be doing a talk/q&a. Also, there are some special things planned in honor of John’s 75th birthday (what would have been :/) – not sure what kind of stuff that will be, the site doesn’t have specifics. Hal Bruce will be there, I guess he knows a large (for one person) portion of the pop/rock catalog of the last 60 years and he can play any Beatles song upon request. The headline act is “former members of ELO” (not including Jeff Lynne). No need to spend 199 USD for first 10 row seats for that one, especially since there are only about 50 rows of seats altogether so watching from behind the barrier ropes will still be fairly close. Single-day general admission tickets were on sale for 22 USD in February so that is a great deal, especially since there aren’t many crowds or lines and it’s easy to see the various acts from pretty close.

My uncle and I are going down Saturday morning, spending 2 nights in the hotel, and will come home Monday night.  Another tribute band (Classictones) was announced too – they won the “best Latin American Beatles tribute band” in some contest (they’re from Columbia). Lots of bands from the European and South American theatres of Beatlemania operations. One of the bands is 4 women, not sure if they try to look like JPG&R or not ;)

This uncle is only 15 years older than me – we’re really close :) A couple years ago we visited the r&r hof together, and we usually catch a baseball game if he’s here in the summer. We saw both Paul and Ringo together. He worked in my grandparents’ liquor store, where it was illegal for anyone under 20yo to enter – but when I was 10 and spent the summer with them, he’d let me sit and watch tv all day long in the store with him, and even ring it up and handle the money sometimes (very illegal!).

Ok I know stay-on-topic

There’ll be a Beatles festival in southern California (in Pico Rivera) on September 26.

One of the groups performing will include members of one of my favorite groups, Oingo Boingo.

Would it be ok to expand this to Beatles exhibits also? If not, I’ll find another home for this post.

Do you think the Artwork thread might be a better place for exhibits?

I was thinking along the lines of your question about expanding a topic. That would be more directly related to the exhibit you attended.

Would it be worthwhile having a thread on handwritten Beatles lyrics, set-lists and other such things? Or do we already have one? Should i be asking this in another thread?
