I took a shower while listening to Paul’s New album. Part of the time I pondered this pinning business. What I pondered the remainder of the time will be added to the Fifty Shades thread.

So, hypothetically, if I am assigned to create a thread that consisted of posts 100-199, Kite is assigned to create a thread with posts 200-299, and RN gets 300-399, and we all work on them at random times over the next 2 days, then when the three of us finish, our posts will be a mixture of date/times that would overlap. How would a mod then get it all into the Beatles Dreams thread in the right order using the pinning method? Would it be a matter of having all four of those threads open and then moving and pinning posts into order? If so, that seems like more work.?.?

I am on post 99 should I stop and let you take over with 100-199 or should I still keep going?

Edit: I thought assigning worked as a tag team thing

Note to mods in case you don’t know this: After we lock a thread, we can add one post before we leave that page. But once the page has refreshed we can’t add another post. I was thinking we could add more. I guess I had added one one time and didn’t remember the thread locking up on even me after the page had refreshed.

@Ahhh Girl A locked thread is no barrier to a mod posting on it. Should a mod need to post on a locked thread, unless Joe has changed it since my day, enter the locked thread, go to your mod tools, unlock it, post, go back to mod tools, relock. Simples!

True. We can do that. I was just thinking that we could post while it was locked. But, as I realized, it was only for that one-time-before-the-pages-refreshes shot at doing so.

Pinning multiple threads together wouldn’t work. Date stamps would override. It would only work in putting together two threads that had overlapping dates where you want to keep the two conversations separate. In which case you would pin all posts in the earliest conversation, and then move the second conversation to that thread without pinning it, which would have it ignore the date stamps and appear after the pinned posts.

My suggestion to @meanmistermustard in this situation would be to ask those willing to help to do their contribution as an offline document, and to copy and paste that when it reaches that point. So, say four people have pages 10, 11, 12, 13 to do, instead of one taking over from the other, they’re all doing at the same time offline, then when their page is needed, it’s just a “Can you now post your bit?”

I have no idea how an offline document works but would that not add to the work as you’re got to copy and paste the original posts, get them into order and then copy and paste those into the Dream thread?

Page 1 was in such disarray format wise in the archive wayback format i had to go via a word document. The google caches are simple copy and pastes.

@Starr Shine?, finish where and when you want and just leave a note. The next volunteer can pick up where you left off.

That sounds like a good idea but then we’d be posting a page at a time instead of post by post.

@Ahhh Girl That was what I was thinking the problem was with my method, unless we waited for our turn. But tag team seems to be working.

Just tell me when I’m needed!

I have to go out, already running late.

I’ll be back for 5pm (so 80 minutes time) for the football so will pick up the reigns then.

Thank you all for being so understanding and helpful. Its not something you see everyday.

I’ll be out for about an hour, only be able to get on mobile, so I can’t help yet, but if MMM is still gone when I get back I’ll gladly take over.

Edit: I can try on mobile though, I’ve done weird things with it before.

I have to go out today, but later afternoon/early evening I’ll be in for the rest of the day to help out (note that I’m on California time).

So should I go back to reconstructing until someone else can take over?

@meanmistermustard  An offline document would be a Word document, or whatever form you use (myself I have Open Office because it’s free and just as good!). So my suggestion was to assign pages to people, let them get on with it offline, then copy and paste their contribution across to online.

Sorry i dont get the whole offline thing but isnt that just an extra step? As you then have to paste everything back online.

I’d rather not create more work.

The suggestion is merely to do with the speed the reconstruction can be done. Working on it offline, I could have the whole thing back up in 24 hours.

@Mr. Kite. Let me know when you want a breather and i’ll pick up from where you stop. I’ll say it forty thousand times in this thread but thanks for the help. It is so much appreciated.

I’m enjoying reading the posts, so I’m fine at the moment. I’ll tell you if it gets tedious.

And you’re welcome, we all want to get the thread back so it’s no problem.

Sorry i know i’m being daft and slow but i dont get how it works doing it offline. Surely you still have to copy and paste each post individually back into its own post number so you are going cached -> offline (word) -> online (thread) instead of the current method of cached -> online (thread). Someone is still going to have to copy and paste the offline into the thread.

Is anyone able to explain it to me in a way that i might get it.

@meanmistermustard The difference is this, tag-team, one person taking over from another, takes all that time, assign pages to people to put together ready to post them, then in the example I used, with preparing their contributions, pages 10-13, could be done very quickly, maybe an hour or so. I’ll give you a complete thread by this time tomorrow. I am already up to page 15.

But why, when people are already pasting to the thread? It sounds like we’ll be done posting there by tomorrow.
