Mi’kmaq Blackbird singer gets huge shoutout from Paul McCartney
“There’s an incredible version done by a Canadian girl. You see it on YouTube. It’s in her native language,” McCartney said in a video from a tour stop in Lexington, Ky. “It’s really cool, check it out.”
The cover and Macca’s response are at the link.

That was… beautiful.
Something @AppleScruffJunior , our resident polyglot might enjoy.
I love that there’s only 10000 people who can speak it left, and now it’s got worldwide recognition.
Lovely story.

^ You called?
I’d never heard of Mi’kmaq before but then again I am very ignorant when it comes to indigenous languages of countries, the only ones I’ve ever looked at were indigenous Brazilian tongues and that was for secondary school.
Interesting looking language, it has no fixed word order which I can only imagine is a nightmare or incredibly convenient if you’re not a native speaker.
Promoting (although it could well already be here on this thread, and I know I’ve posted it before on other threads) but promoting the beloved Celtic languages: The Scots Gaelic (which is very similar to Irish, they are mutually intelligible if you concentrate hard enough).
Julie Fowlis singing Blackbird or rather Lon Dubh.

I can’t believe no one posted this
Interestingly enough, I first thought this was an MJ song because when I was a little kid I was ignorant of virtually any music, yet I knew every MJ album down to the tracklist by memory, like at nine years old. I had a box-set with every music video by MJ, so until I heard Abbey Road , I thought Come Together was his. I prefer John’s voice on it obviously, but with the proper arrangements, it is quite an MJ sounding song. For anyone that loves Dirty Diana or Give In to Me.
Even if one can have their reservations with MJ nowadays, you can’t ignore how amazing this is.

Found this today and can’t get enough of it!
It’s not perfect, but I think its great, and I love Jerry and it’s a perfect Beatles song for him to cover!

Great cover. Very groovy!
Did he mess up the lyric at 1:13? Or he changed it purposefuly? I think he messed up lolYou can even hear him choke up because he knows he blew it. It doesn’t harm the arrangement tho, it’s a great version.
