Since I am still living in exile down in the colonies, I was wondering if anyone has come across any interesting links between the music of the Beatles and the land down under (apart from the obvious tour-related ones, and Colin Hay being in the All-Starr band now and again)? A few examples I know about:
1) George’s “Gone Troppo ” album being named after a bit of Oz slang. The lyrics also refer to Moreton Bay figs, a tree named after the bay on which Brisbane is situated; he probably had a bunch of them on that island he had off the coast of Queensland (I think they are also common in California?).
2) A set of the “Get Back ” tapes was recovered by police in Sydney back in 2003.
3) This oddity (hope the link works ok):

I don’t know about any particular links to Australia. However, this may interest you, a link to Australian news coverage of them:

Thanks mja, the ‘Trove’ site has some amazing links – I was able to find the immigration records from when we moved here in the late 60s.

Oh, plus the info we have on this very site of course:

I seem to recall that the Hey Jude album was the 2nd album I ever owned after Let It Be . I had also quite forgotten that Essential Beatles LP which I also had back then.
