@Mr. Kite I love Boston! At least I love Boston and Don’t Look Back. My dad only bought the first two, the remaining four are on my wish list. Any recommendations on which to get?
I’m not a well versed on Boston as the Beatles, Police, or Bon Jovi, but from what I know I’d say earlier ones with their original lead singer… Maybe the greatest hits?

I think the first two are all you really need – seems the me the rest is just diminishing returns. They really never advanced beyond the blueprint for that debut (which I love) and every succeeding album was weaker than its predecessor. I suppose Third Stage and Walk On would be the ones to get next if you’re desperate for more, though.

Which is why I’m not too in depth with Boston, but the third album does have some good stuff, such as Amanda (that’s on the third one right?)
I forgot someone yet again! The Stones! How could I forget the Stones?!

I know exactly how. They’re not very good.

They’re very different than the Beatles… They’re a good band, I enjoy a lot of their stuff, not all of it, but they’re definitely not bad. They wanted to be more raw sounding anyway which might be what you don’t like.

Haha, not currently, they’re not! Used to be great, a long time ago though.
And yes, “Amanda” is on the third (“Third Stage”) Boston album.

The raw thing doesn’t really bother me, I love other “raw” sounding bands (Nirvana, The Clash)
And von, I don’t like anything they’ve produced other than Gimme Shelter (I’ve heard Exile On Main St. and Let It Bleed)

It’s never anyone but the Beatles, only on occasions it is xD
Queen, The Killers, The Beach Boys , Elvis, The Kinks, Buddy Holly, U2, Green Day, Coldplay, ABBA, Mumford and Sons
And I only like a couple of songs from those bands, apart from Queen, The Killers and The Beach Boys
EDIT: Busted were my favourite band as a kid, I LOVED them! Hated McFly though, because I thought they caused Busted to split up xD Which they didn’t
Favourite band: The Beatles
Favourite song: Yesterday
Favourite album: Rubber Soul
Favourite member: Paul McCartney

For me probably Poets of the fall and I like songs from other bands but not enough to be considered a fan of the band

Back in high school, me and my two best friends had a running question, Which is better, Santana or Chicago? My favorite band (outside the Beatles) is a toss-up between those two. I suspect that most Beatles fans would never dream of liking those two bands that much (if at all). For that reason I’ve always felt a bit of an outsider, as I’m not a fan of the usual “rock” which seems to draw the usual Beatles fans. And yet, we have the common denominator of the Beatles — yet another reason why they were so great.

This is puzzling to me…maybe there was a lot more cliqueishness in musical preferences back in your high school days? I’d say that for my generation, Beatles/Chicago/Santana are all appreciated, just for being such “Classic Rock” staples. Listen to Q107 or WRIF or whatever your local (North American) classic rock station for a day and you’ll probably hear a couple of songs by all three!
(I’ll take Santana over Chicago, myself btw. “Chicago Transit Authority” started out ambitiously, excellent musicianship and their first three albums are good, but they never fulfilled their early jazz-rock potential. Some of their 70s soft-rock singles are kinda nice, though, I guess.)
EDIT: On second thought, I don’t know what the hell I’m talking about! There was LOTS of musical snobbery when I was in high school, just like there probably is among high schoolers now, and in the ’60s and 70s and etc. And I still think there are many, many Beatles fans who appreciate Chicago/Santana…but that’s because there are many, many Beatles fans, period. Which means that many of them will also hate Chicago and/or Santana, or even have no opinion at all, having never heard of them.
Paul: Yeah well… first of all, we’re bringing out a ‘Stamp Out Detroit’ campaign.

Maybe because the 80s is when I started to “rebel” and listen to more pop/rock, I’m more familiar with Peter Cetera-era Chicago. But I like both Chicago and Santana.
I think there’s always been cliqueishness about music tastes in high school, since that is when kids forge their identities, and peer acceptance is a huge part of that, and what you listen to weighs in on your “coolness” factor. I would have been a lot cooler if I’d chosen U2 over Duran, but they’re just not my thing.
