As I’m still recovering from a bad cold, I returned to In the Pleasure Groove, the autobiography of John Taylor of Duran Duran, my favorite band. He’d released the book right at the time of my Beatles resurgence, so it was put aside after a couple of chapters. I’m really enjoying it, and I think I appreciate it even more from a musical history perspective having read so many Beatles books in the interim.

There are some Beatles references peppered throughout (such as the fact that John went to art school in part inspired by his musical heroes like John Lennon ). And there’s this bit:

I first listened back to a mix of Rio sitting beside Paul McCartney , who was working in the next-door studio and, at my beckoning, came in to listen to what we were up to. His approval was denoted by a highly satisfying two thumbs up.

We’d become friends with Paul and Linda’s daughter Heather. Paul could see the through-line from his old band to ours. On one occasion, we went to see him play in New York. Backstage, he was happy to see us.

“‘Ello, lads, what are you doing here? Long way from Birmingham!”

I explained we were in the city to hang out.

“Oh, John and I used to love taking trips like that. Sometimes you have just got to get away and have some fun, get some inspiration.”

I don’t know if there was this thread already but I don’t feel like looking through 28 pages.

My List:

(1. The Beatles)  2. Led Zeppelin  3. Rush  4. Pink Floyd  5. Coldplay

Mike Oldfield – well, he DID play enough instruments to qualify as a band :)

Grey skies have cleared up. . .

For ages it was impossible to find many videos and so i gave up. A long year later and some are on youtube so yeah!!!!!! Many still aren’t a-hard-days-night-paul-3blue-meanie

One of the few artists (outside of Beatles and their solo cicles) i adore is Kendall Payne. Its an artist like her who makes the idea of giving up all other music for just the Beatles ludicrous. Unlikely anyone else here has heard of her and when i play her stuff at home people are waiting for it to be over. However i am going to post some stuff here and to all who don’t like it well a-hard-days-night-paul-11. Its not weird or loud or shouty or anything like that (you may wish it was if you listen to it).heart

Radiohead and Nirvana. I enjoy The Clash and Wilco as well.

Radiohead’s masterwork, Paranoid Android:  Probably the best song of the nineties.

And Nirvana’s, Come As You Are (though you could make the argument for a number of others):  Probably the second best song of the nineties.

In no particular order:

Pink Floyd

The Who

The Smithereens

Maybe I’ll think of more later.  I’m drawing a blank right now.

I'm Necko.  I'm like Ringo except I wear necklaces.

I'm also ewe2 on weekends.

Most likely to post things that make you go hmm... 2015, 2016, 2017.

Not really what I’m into, but she does have talent. From what you’ve posted, it seems a bit samey-samey. Glad you’re enjoying the music, though.

I know what you’re saying and listening to those four i do agree however there is other stuff which is different but its not up on youtube, even what is up is one song from this uploader, one song from someone else.

But anyway if we all liked all the same bands and artists we’d get bored.apple01

Well I’m pretty much only mad about the Beatles and their solo career bands too. I like various individual songs by bands like The Who, Queen, Coldplay, etc., but only hear their songs whenever they’re on a radio or in a movie, I don’t buy them or Google them. Other than that the only music group (didn’t say band) I’m incredibly biased in favour of is the LSO. Not sure if I’m the only classical music fan here.

London Symphony Orchestra, I believe.

The only LSO stuff I like is when they did the series on classic rock. Everything from Bohemian Rhapsody to Nights In White Satin and Life on Mars to Whole Lotta Love in orchestral forms. Joy!

"White Album - My joint-fave Beatles album along with Revolver. They show the two sides of Beatles. Revolver's very controlled - even though it's also very innovative. The White Album's playful and almost ramshackle. It's like a scrapbook kept by a genius. Fantastic stuff."

I like them. I think YYZ is the greatest rock instrumental of all time, and 2112 is the greatest long form rock opera. (I haven’t heard any Pink Floyd stuff, which I’ve heard is good, so this could change once I hear it)

@Mr. Kite I love Boston! At least I love Boston and Don’t Look Back. My dad only bought the first two, the remaining four are on my wish list. Any recommendations on which to get?
