Seeing as everybody is doing solo artists (I took the “bands” thing literally) Here we go:

Donovan

Elvis

Eric Clapton

Neil Diamond

Nina Simone

Bob Dylan

Thom Yorke

Weird Al (who doesn’t like Weird Al…well it’s the Pac Man, yeah it’s the Pac Man)

And last but not least: Michael Jackson (I am a self-appointed Michael Jackson expert a-hard-days-night-john-6) I mean I know what the man’s favourite superman was (Morph from X-Men), he had a pet ram called Mr. Tibbles, he helped plan Gregory Peck’s funeral (who was his neighbour), speaking of Gregory Peck “To Kill a Mockingbird” was one of his favourite films and he recommend everybody to watch it, just as John had the number 9, Michael has the number 7; born in 1958, 19+58=77, died on the 25th, 2+5=7, “Thriller”, “Bad” and “Dangerous” each produced 7 top 40 hits, he signed his will on 7/7/02 and his memorial concert was held on the 7/7/09- exactly 7 years after his will was signed.

And there my friends is a 100% ramble about Michael Jackson on a Beatles website, not a very common sight and I’m sorry if I bored anybody to death while they were reading over it and if you skipped over it I don’t mind a-hard-days-night-george-10

Michael Jackson’s music really does nothing for me. I like a few of his songs like Beat it, Thriller and such, but his voice annoys me and I don’t think his songs are very special. It just doesn’t do anything for me you know. I can see why others like it though.

I completely forgot to mention MGMT by the way. They’re not that well known but I love their music.

Totally agree. I went thru itunes samples of one of his greatest hits, a double album, and came away thinking “is that it?”. Beat It and Billie Jean are about it for me. I hate his work with the Jackson 5 and the rest of it has never grabbed me. Earth Song is far too up itself and i cant forget the embarrassing Brit Awards performance – tho it did beat Free As A Bird to number 1 which makes me pleased as it would have been so out of place on 1 and there wouldn’t have been enough space for it anyway (tho i attribute some of the blame to Apple).

Have to add that the material he recorded with Paul is beyond crap and he totally screwed Paul when buying Northern Songs, tho Paul and Yoko were ridiculously stupid and incompetent throughout the negotiating and purchasing period.

I liked the Jackson Five — especially their hit ABC, and also the way they sang “Doo-Da-Wop! Hey-hey-hey Doo-Da-Wop!” on the Stevie Wonder song You Haven’t Done Nothin’ (1974).

Listened to a bit of MJ when he died but his songs felt too, what’s the word, shallow? That’s not quite what I mean but, I dunno. I’m not a fan, really. What he did to Paul doesn’t really help, either, though I do try and judge his musical talents without bearing that in mind.

In no particular order; Sinatra, Dean Martin, Simon and Garfunkel, Dion DiMucci, Four Seasons, Taylor Swift, Johnny Cash, and Justin Timberlake.

What about the Jonas Brothers? I thought you were a fan…?

Yeah, I am a fan of the Jo Bros. I did people I have recently been on a kick for. It’s been a good month since I’ve been on a Jonas Brothers kick.

I notice there is a big emphasis on classic rock in people’s lists.  Not that I’m surprised, but I feel like I don’t have much in common musically with people’s “other bands” lists.

Ah, I see. I must admit, I only know a few of the names on your list. Don’t worry though, there’s room for everyone here. I suppose the reason most of us like other classic rock bands is because, like it or not, that is what The Beatles are – so it’s only natural.

But… but… The Girl Is Mine! C’mon man, The Girl is Mine!

Gloriously awful song that I can’t believe hasn’t been covered yet. Plus it makes me laugh everytime I envision Paul fighting Michael over a girl (or perhaps Linda… maybe she was a swinger? a-hard-days-night-ringo-6

Cant remember who I wrote last time but have to include Dylan and Johnny Cash now and getting more into Pink Floyd and the Doors. I knew of their work but have started to listen to more and more. Am currently weighing up the pros and cons of listening to complete Rolling Stones albums, especially their work away from ABKCO.

I’ve already given my anal “A to Z favourites” on this thread here

https://www.beatlesbible.com/f…..nd/page-4/ (go on, contribute, it’s fun!)

but my basic standby non-Beatle top ten remains pretty steady: Zeppelin, MX-80 Sound, P-Funk, Jimi, John Coltrane, Zappa, Miles Davis, Velvet Underground, Captain Beefheart, and Dylan (pre-Christian, mostly.)

GEORGE: In fact, The Detroit Sound. JOHN: In fact, yes. GEORGE: In fact, yeah. Tamla-Motown artists are our favorites. The Miracles. JOHN: We like Marvin Gaye. GEORGE: The Impressions PAUL & GEORGE: Mary Wells. GEORGE: The Exciters. RINGO: Chuck Jackson. JOHN: To name but eighty.

I’m getting more into Pink Floyd too. I really only knew most of the Wall and all of Dark Side Of The Moon and the popular stuff like Shine on you crazy diamond and Wish you were here, but now I’ve checked out most of their stuff and I really love it. I had heard a lot of it before, since my dad is a huge Pink Floyd fan and plays it a lot, but of course I never recognized it as PF.

I’ve tried to listen to more Bob Dylan and more of the Stones, but I guess they just don’t do it for me. They have some good songs, but Bob Dylan is just not my taste and The Stones just have a lot of crap songs.

As said elsewhere on here its taken me an age to get into Dylan but im finally getting there thru the odd track coming up on random. As for The Stones the reason for my hesition is there is so much dross, even on the best of’s I have to skip tracks. Their good stuff is great but the crap is unlistenable and embarrassing for such a legendary band.

1- The Beatles. Obviously.

2- Red Hot Chilli Peppers. His sound evolved so much and they were always great (as the Beatles), no matter if they played funk, pop, funk metal, rock, or whatever. And every member is (or was) a master of his instrument.

3- Oasis. Noel is the best songwriter ever (after Lennon/McCartney) Some of the other members are great musicians.

4- AC/DC. A blues band that plays hard rock. Simple playing but very effective.

5- Depends on the day.
