The Clash.!
their music is brilliant and I like their lyrics. my favourites are “Train In Vain”, “Stand By Me “, “I'm so bored with the USA” (sorry, Americans), “Tommy Gun”, “White Riot” and “Complete Control”.
and Oasis are very good, too. my favourites are “Don't Look Back In Anger”, “Champagne Supernova” and “Stand By Me “.
haha just noticed that Clash and Oasis both have a song titled “Stand By Me “.
oh and Queen.! they're legends, too.
I feel kinda lame for posting at this topic, 'cause the last post is from 16th October.

Ah, The Clash. I actually am listening to them now, Police on My Back. The Guns of Brixton is eery. I hate (and love at the same time) how the lyrics both predate the 80’s issues, and yet still resonate in the 2011 riots. But London Calling is their best song, IMO.

Oh god, I'll never be able to listen to the Doors unbiasedly. My mom's friend Roseanne forever ruined them for me. She has the most unholy obsession with Jim Morrison, it honestly creeps me out. She's a fanatic in the most crazed of ways. She even went to his childhood home with a Ouijia (is that how you spell it?) board and attempted to “commune with his spirit.”
His spirit was apparently not interested in communing. She didn't get a response. It's kind of hard for me to hear them without thinking of Roseanne. I quite like “People Are Strange” though.
Oh, and I saw the earlier part in the thread about “Her Majesty .” I've always been a little bothered about them tacking that on instead of ending with “The End .” That would have been very dramatic. I think most other bands would have gone for the whole epic-finale showstopper type thing, but they chose to add this little whimsical note to the finish. It could be seen as a bit of a buzz kill, but I think taking risks like that is part of what made the Beatles the Beatles. Plus, it lightens up the end of the album. If they'd closed with “The End ” it might have come off as a little too heavy, self-righteous almost. Just my opinion.
"Now and then, though, someone does begin to grow differently. Instead of down, his feet grow up toward the sky. But we do our best to discourage awkward things like that."
"What happens to them?" insisted Milo.
"Oddly enough, they often grow ten times the size of everyone else," said Alec thoughtfully, "and I’ve heard that they walk among the stars."

I think Her Majesty would work better if it remained a hidden/unlisted track, as it originally was. As then The End would still be the last track, or cause discussion.
Right the way thru the beatles its never been simple, starting with Please Please Me and the debate of whether it was a true #1 in the UK or not. (It was but its not on 1 even tho it did reach number 1 but it didnt.) And i suppose you also have the whole Pete Best thing and a whole host of others.
What is great tho is that if you have The End playing load and someone comes in the room to tell you to turn it , see them jump when the first chord of Her Majesty comes crashing down.
I really should get into more bands, to get back on topic, but in truth i cant be bothered at the moment.

There's a John Lennon cover of “Stand By Me ” as well. Interesting how it's all connected…

Whats the odds on Oasis having a song called Stand By Me because of John's cover?

it's obvious that Oasis are big Lennon/Beatles fans, 'cause he immitates his looks and you can se the influence on Oasis' songs (like She's Electric. a part from this song sounds just like “I don't know how …” line from While My Guitar Gently Weeps ) but the lyrics aren't much like Lennon's “Stand By Me “.

Yeah, but the name of the song, like George's Wonderwall. Its not just merely coincidence that Oasis have a song of the same name as Wonderwall. And so i can see Liam or Noel doing the same with Stand By Me . Heck they nicked nearly everything else, sorry, were paying tribute. No, nicked is definately the write word.

The Clash's song isn't called Stand By Me . It's called Train in Vain, or Train in Vain (Stand By Me ) if you're American and bought the original single.

it’s still “Train in Vain (Stand By Me )
oops, I’ve mistaken “Train in Vain” for “Should I Stay or Should I go”.

Wings are the only band in a class with the beatles for me. I also like the stones, dylan and nirvana but not nearly as much as I like The Beatles or Wings

The Beatles are really the only oldies band I love. I guess Nirvana’s ok… And the Red Hot Chili Peppers were in the 90s too, but I like alternative bands the best. Paramore and Florence + the Machine are my faves.
But no one comes close to the Beatles of course.
PEACE OUT.

The Beatles are the only band I can confidently say are my favorite. I honestly don’t think I can name a second-favorite band because I have like a three-way tie for second place…but if we can name solo artists, I’m like Bob Dylan all the way!
