So I’m sure many of you have heard the later-removed final verse of While My Guitar Gently Weeps on Anthology/LOVE. Similarly, the lyrics were very different in the 1968 Esher demos for The White Album (unfortunately, due to the low-quality recording, I can’t make them out. Shame really, because I’d love to sing them). The former’s verse is this, if you didn’t know previously…
“I look from the wings of the play you are staging, While My Guitar Gently Weeps ;
As I’m sitting here doing nothing but aging, still my guitar gently weeps.”
I’ve always loved these lyrics, and I’m always sure to include them whenever I play the song.
There are other songs which have the changed or removed lyrics, such as the slow version of Helter Skelter on Anthology:
“When I get to the bottom I go back to the top of the ride,
As I get and I know that I never get high
‘Till I get to the bottom and I see you again”
I’m sure many of us know of the original “she was never a beauty queen” from I Saw Her Standing There . It’s interesting to see such an important song in development, and the bigger the change, I find, the better; I don’t really tend to count minor lyrics, especially if it’s just one word changed. It’s always interesting to find out about unused lyrics – it’s like an entirely new experience, especially wondering what it would sound like if it was released.
Does anyone else know of any alternate lyrics and verses?

I believe there’s a youtube of that early Esher version of “Weeps” on a thread updated last week…wish I could remember exactly which one.
“She Said She Said ” was pretty different in its early stages.
GEORGE: In fact, The Detroit Sound. JOHN: In fact, yes. GEORGE: In fact, yeah. Tamla-Motown artists are our favorites. The Miracles. JOHN: We like Marvin Gaye. GEORGE: The Impressions PAUL & GEORGE: Mary Wells. GEORGE: The Exciters. RINGO: Chuck Jackson. JOHN: To name but eighty.

… As does Mean Mister Mustard on Anthology 3 (“his sister Shirley”) and You’ve Got To Hide Your Love Away was originally “two foot tall” before it was altered to “small”. The last verse of Ob-La-Di Ob-La-Da was a simple repeat of the one before before Paul changed the persons around “Desmond does his pretty face”.

Those weren’t lyrical alterations, they were mistakes made during singing that were left in.

I was just pointing out that they weren’t intentionally altered. I agree they belong here, because they’re different.
