That’s the thing: I think we all expected a certain quality of product with the Sgt Peppers release, we knew what we wouldn’t like and it wasn’t a huge disappointment like Anthology. But I have much less idea what could be turned up with this rerelease, although my expectations have some basis in bootlegs. I think a progression from home and escher demos to good milestone recordings would be something worth having, but after that I’m really not sure.

Now I'm a confused bassist ukulele guitar synthesizer kazoo penguin everyone who is definitely not @Joe. This has been true for 2016 & 2017 but I may have to get more specific in the future.

One disc filled with takes 1 – 3 of ‘Helter Skelter ‘, the complete ‘Revolution ‘ (as bootlegged) and a few takes/mixes of ‘What’s The New Mary Jane ‘ to take it 77 minutes of music. One massive f*** y** to the critics and fans.

It’s probably going to be similar to the Sgt. Pepper box set but with twice the discs.
Discs 1/2:
New stereo mix
Discs 3/4 of 4 disc set:
Outtakes of each track including Hey Jude and Revolution , the latter 2 also containing new stereo mixes
Discs 3/4/5/6:
Chronological outtakes
Discs 7/8:
Original mono mix of album, Hey Jude single, and cancelled Yellow Submarine EP
Disc 9 (DVD or Blu Ray):
5.1 surround mix and videos of Hey Jude and Revolution

I’d love to see it include:
- The Kinfauns demos that weren’t included on Anthology 3 , particularly Circles
- The full blister-inducing version of Helter Skelter
- The full version of Can You Take Me Back?
- Revolution take 20 in its entirety and/or isolated loops or conversation from Revolution 9
- The isolated Indian musicians on The Inner Light
- Outtakes/isolated tracks on songs like Julia , Piggies , Dear Prudence , Cry Baby Cry , Mother Nature’s Son , and Birthday
- Good Night demoed by John (though sadly, I don’t think this was recorded)
- Acoustic sing-alongs from their time in Rishikesh (which appear to be available at least in some limited way via YouTube)
- Alternate takes that are significantly different that the released version
- Any previously unreleased songs or snippets from 1968

I’m starting to go a bit bonkers in anticipation of this box set. I’ll be pre-ordering this as soon as I’m able… hopefully the wait won’t be too much longer! The wait for any information at all is starting to get unbearable.
I generally consider Abbey Road the Beatles’ best album, and as far as quality of songs and production, I suppose it is. But there is just a magic to the White Album that no other album has. Like many people (I would imagine), when I first heard it in college many years ago I didn’t know the full story of the band and how these songs came to be. What I mean by that is – I now know that the band was fracturing in 68 but to me it was simply a Beatles album. In my mind, all four Beatles made that record together and I’ll always listen to it that way. I go back and forth between Rubber Soul , White Album and Abbey Road as my personal favorite, but this box set might just push the White Album up to the top forever. Can’t wait!!

I don’t get how @Dark Overlord’s expectations are so low considering that The White Album has the most extra sessions and demos than any albums aside from Let It Be .

I don’t get the suggestion of the YS EP, @Dark Overlord. Every track on it was recorded prior to the step-change that was the White Album . It would make more sense to wait until we get to a deluxe MMT based around the Capitol album, and include the YS Beatles soundtrack there.

While 75% of the new songs were recorded in 1967, the movie wasn’t released until July 1968, right in the middle of sessions for the White Album , so it would only make sense for them to include the unreleased EP in the box set. Also, i don’t think we’re getting a box set for the US MMT.

I do think we’re at the beginning of something here, @Dark Overlord. I think there are more deluxe sets to come, and eventually the whole canon set of albums will be done, the only problem with it being the YS album because of the GM side. It doesn’t provide enough exclusive Beatles songs to be the basis of a Deluxe.
It makes sense that, since 3 of the 4 songs were recorded 1967, you create some “soundtrack recordings + more” hybrid set based on MMT.
With the 1968 Lady Madonna sessions, I’d probably add LM to the White as it points the way to Paul’s piano songs on the White, while The Inner Light , Across The Universe and Hey Bulldog are the remnants of ’67, so I’d deal with those on an expanded MMT.
EDIT
Also a point to note, MMT has already lost Penny Lane and Strawberry Fields to last year’s deluxe Pepper. So, bar one song, it would consist of their post-Pepper, pre-India recordings (bar two songs if LM made more sense on the White).

For starters, the album of course should be remastered and remixed like the Pepper anniversary with a new/updated poster. And like the Pepper anniversary have some outtakes and bonus stuff (Esher demos, rare photos from India, the sessions etc). Also a remix and remastering of Not Guilty , What’s The New Mary Jane , Revolution Take 20, Hey Jude and the Revolution single.

Seems daft splitting the February 1968 sessions in two, especially two songs that were also released on the same single.
Something is coming (credit to Wogblog for the heads-up)
If the release is tagged to the 50th release of ‘The Beatles’ then it lessens the chance of earlier sets as it looks like Apple have a 50th theme going on; ‘Pepper’, ‘EDAW’ (tho two weeks after the 50th anniversary of Candlestick Park), the US albums in 2014, ‘Love Me Do ‘ single in 2012. Hopefully we will see more deluxe sets, and I do expect an ‘Abbey Road ‘ set at a minimum.
Nothing for ‘Revolver ‘ is a strange one; arguably it now surpasses ‘Pepper’ in terms of influence and legacy so to do nothing in 2016 still seems bizarre. A positive spin would be that ‘EDAW’ came out 2 weeks after any 50th ‘Revolver ‘ would have been which may have turned Apple off as they would not schedule two projects within a month of each other. But this is Apple – at times i’m surprised they know the music still exists considering how much crap merchandise they give up and what they overlook.

I agree on LM, @meanmistermustard, but was just saying I could see an argument for it fitting on the White, stylistically, that I can’t see with other songs.
As I say, with SFF and PL handled on the deluxe Pepper, and YS not really being, you know, enough… to justify a Deluxe, if they do go back to revisit earlier albums once they’ve run out of releases to make on the 50th anniversary, you’d expect Past Masters to be swallowed pretty much by Deluxes of albums the sessions fit with (the only real oddity being, as it always has been, the Paris session for the German songs), then you’re left with a bunch of songs between (bar 1 song) the end of Pepper and them heading off to India, and it would make sense to look at those a whole.

Website Beatlefan has the first substantive leak on the White, which it seems will be released on 9 November.
4LP version including 2018 remix and Esher demos;
3CD version including same as above (2CDs for the remix, 1 for Esher);
6CD + Audio Blu-Ray super deluxe, same as above plus 3CDs of studio outtakes.
The outtakes include “Hey Jude ,” “Revolution ,” “Inner Light,” “Across The Universe ,” “Lady Madonna ,” and nonalbum tracks/jams/improvisations. Of the latter, Beatlefan has been told that at least a couple are previously unknown. There also are some rehearsals.
It will also include the full 12-minute version of the Anthology version of Helter Skelter (but not the 27-minute version).
The Daily Beatle also comments on the news, adding Giles Martin talking to a Brazilian journalist.

A bit of a bummer that the mono version won’t be included too, as it was with Sgt. Pepper . I was looking forward to that since I don’t own a physical mono version. Oh well, I’ll still be pre-ordering the deluxe set as soon as possible!
