You might check out the Mamas and Papas’ cover. This may be the only Beatle song done better by another performer.

Offline Every time I see a post on this thread I think I should give it a go – but it’s not possible – Mainly because I over think it (for example, should I factor in a song’s impact? Some great songs aren’t necessarily my favorites to listen to,…). I might possibly have a top 40.

Even if I only factor in what I like, I still find this to be an impossible exercise. As I wrote long ago on this topic (or in a similar one), when I try to choose my “favorite” Beatles song in any context (top 10, best on an album, etc.) I feel almost like that legendary mother in that myth who was forced to choose between two of her sons which would live and which would die.
At best, I find myself with a meaninglessly homogenous “Top 100” Beatles songs where they are all more or less crowded into the top spot of #1.
This doesn’t mean I don’t have distinctions in my mind among the various songs; but they are more distinctions among things I like for different reasons, different flavors, colors, textures, spices — a horizontal stratification, so to speak, not a vertical one.
Faded flowers, wait in a jar, till the evening is complete... complete... complete... complete...
