How does that make John screwed either way?
All John wanted to say in ‘Dig A Pony ‘ was all he wanted was Yoko but wrote more to get a song and folk moan that the rest of the song is garbage.
Give them a song where John says all he wants is Yoko and folk moan ‘I Want You (She’s So Heavy)’ is too simplistic implying John should write more.
So they basically want John to write something different, something that fits some idea in their own heads. Probably consisting of three verses, a chorus repeated a few times, a bridge and a nice instrumental section – the track length running between 3 and 4 minutes.

Would anybody use the same defense for I Want You as they would for Why Don’t We Do It In The Road or Wild Honey Pie ? Yes neither song is a masterpiece like I Want You, but I think the genius of WDWDINTR is similar.
If you’re drowning, you scream. For John, he wants to express his deep obsession with Yoko and feels the only thing that needs to be said is “I want you so bad its driving me mad. She’s so heavy!”
Paul is expressing a more general sense of open love that is extremely important in Beatles music and sixties culture. Yet WDWDIINTR is often dismissed as trash.

‘WHP’ is a great oddity helped no end because of its brevity, increase its length by even 20 seconds and it would be overstaying it’s welcome. There are moments in Paul’s solo carer where he subjects us to similar kinds of musical mumblings that, because they last longer, bore the listener silly.
Take 4 of ‘WDWDIITR’ reveals how much of a dull filler on repeat listens it could have been, thankfully Paul reworked it and we got a yelping rocking question of doing naughty things in public like the monkeys. Due to everything in how it finished up, it’s no surprise that John was disappointed not to have been involved in its recording (you really need the handclaps tho).
‘IWY (SSH)’ is a brilliant example of an individual who goes from hesitant utterances to full-blown never-ending obsessive infatuation that points back to a side of John presented in ‘No Reply ‘, ‘You Can’t Do That’ and ‘Run For Your Life ‘ – and I’ll even throw in ‘I’ll Get You ‘.
I’d far rather listen to both ‘WHP’ and ‘WDWDIITR’ over other ‘White Album ‘ tracks like ‘Julia ‘, ‘Mother Nature’s Son ‘ and ‘Honey Pie ‘.

Id also add I’m So Tired to the list of John’s romantic obsession songs. Its such a great song, but I always overlook how crazy it is for a person to not sleep for so long just because of unrequited love.

For me, ‘I’m So Tired ‘ is a step or two down from the ones I named as it’s one thing not to sleep, another to come across the kind of guy you should be warning folk about and getting restraining orders out.

True. If not for the others, I probably wouldn’t have twice about the psychology behind I’m So Tired.

There are some songs that I have never brought myself to listen to all the way through because they bore me like Flying . I never like Yellow Submarine because I thought it dragged on and I didn’t find anything about it very interesting.

I know exactly what you mean. I’ve never been a fan of Yellow Submarine either. I always think of it as a kid’s song. Welcome to the forum by the way

I find Julia and Long, Long, Long to be very hella draggy songs. I almost always skip them when they come on. They sound pretty, but they’re still too boring for me to get into. I’m don’t think I’ve listened to either of them straight through (and not just playing in the background) in at least three years.

I agree, Julia is a total snorefest, it’s like they took Dear Prudence and removed all of the color leaving us with a black and white (acoustic guitar and vocals) performance that is begging for some bass and drums.
If you're reading this, you are looking for something to do.
