Probably stuff from The White Album , or Abbey Road , which are my dad’s favorites. I literally was listening to The Beatles before I could read, so it’s hard to say.

Hi everybody. I don’t know – I don’t remember – if I’ve posted here or not (for those of you who don’t know it, I used to be an active member but took a long break). I discovered The Beatles through my uncle, who had studied in London in the ’60s (lucky him) He brought with him several LPs and singles. The Rolling Stones didn’t say much to me (with one exception: The Last Time), but The Beatles did. I think the first song that really caught my attention was Michelle . It made me listen to the whole Rubber Soul over and over again. Then I listened to the “Blue Album ”, and then I went to the music shop and bought the early LPs (so I didn’t listen to the lads in chronological order) That was 1980 –the year John was killed.

Everyone has childhood memories of Beatles songs, whether being played off of vinyl by your parents or blasted in the classroom by the teacher. Which songs were your first exposure to the Beatles? My music teacher in elementary school played us Yellow Submarine , Birthday , Sgt. Pepper , and Hello Goodbye all the time.Alas, I am an oddball. My first time to hear a Beatles song, and know what it was I was listening to, was last May. I am 45 years old.
Interesting, you’ve never consciously heard any of their songs (Hello, Goodbye , She Loves You , Hey Jude , Twist And Shout , the list goes on) until recently. Considering you were born in 1968, I’d expect you to have at least some knowledge of Ferris Buller’s Day Off with the scene where he’s singing Twist And Shout or to have heard a song or 2 on rock radio. Something tells me you had no older siblings and your parents either disliked or had no interest in The Beatles.

I have two answers to this question:
1. A Hard Day’s Night (the first episode of the TV show)
2. Sgt. Pepper ‘s Lonely Hearts Club Band (the first song off the first album that got me into in to The Beatles outside the TV show and also Rock music in general outside of TV shows)

My first Beatle song was ‘She Loves You ‘ I believe. I was seven and a big fan of ‘Doctor Who’ like most young people which led me to stumble upon a video on the Internets somewhere about the show in the ’60s with contemporary soundtrack, and one of the first songs was ‘She Loves You ‘ and it really stuck with me unlike the other tracks– I have no idea why.

I was in the 8th grade (13yo) when JFK was killed. The national mood was deep grief. Then 2 songs hit the radio at the same time (2 different companies): I Wanna Hold Your Hand and She Loves You . Didn’t know who was singing but they burst forth with sheer joy. Nobody ever sounded like that before! I soon found out. So did America. Imagine being on that exact cusp of no Beatles, then Beatles. I can never explain what those two little songs did to us or for us American kids. But it was pretty miraculous! And that miracle is still alive in my heart.

I had always heard “Help !” but, always turned away from actually listening to it seriously. My first Beatles song I actually put on and listened to was “While My Guitar Gently Weeps ” and since then I fell in love, and listened to every piece of art that they’ve put out that i could get my hands on, in the band or by themselves.

Silly Girl already posted on page six
I thought I’d posted here already…I Will , Till There Was You , I Need You , and I Should Have Known Better (I think). My dad used to sing them when I was small; I barely remember the latter two, but the former stuck with me as he used them as sleepytime lullabies.
I found my first ‘proper’ Beatles songs at around the age of seven or eight, when I somehow got my mitts on Yellow Submarine Songtrack . There was no turning back after that!
… and I remembered that Hey Bulldog was the first song I properly fell in love with, before I found out that I Will , I Should Have Known Better , and I Need You were even Beatles songs. So, really, Hey Bulldog might be my first Beatles song, in a weird contorted way. I’ll add it to the list just to be safe.
It’s still one of my great favourites!

I can’t remember too well, but I think that it was either Come Together , Sgt Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band, or Hey Jude . I remember just looking at how long Hey Jude was, and thinking “This is a really long song” and then I listened to it, and though “Is 3 or 4 minutes of saying “na, na, na, na ,na, na, Hey Jude ” really necessary?”. But still, I was hooked. And the rest is history…

This is a tricky one because my mother listened to The Beatles with me while I was in the womb and my parents had The Beatles on a lot while I was a newborn, so I was always around them. However, the first time I really had interest would have to be the Yellow Submarine movie.

I’m sure it wasn’t the first Beatles song I ever heard, but I will always remember when I was in primary school having guitar lessons, sitting in a circle with the teacher instructing us how to play Yellow Submarine . I remember playing it badly because I’m left-handed and she didn’t really know how to teach me properly because of that (or maybe I just had no talent!).
Edit: I was later introduced to Twist And Shout by watching Ferris Bueller’s Day Off and found it on my mum’s iPod later that night. Yellow Submarine was great, but I think Twist And Shout was the first song that really kicked off my interest in The Beatles.

I actually think the first Beatles song I heard was Drive My Car when I was about 6. The official version was used in some fashion advert which involved a car (I can’t find it on YT, although for some reason, I think it might have been for Stella McCartney.) The first Beatles song I heard which I properly enjoyed was Hello Goodbye from my old MP3 player (which I mentioned in the 9 facts thread) about a year later.
