Hello BEATLES Fans:
Toward the very end of “You Know My Name (Look Up The Number)”, one can hear someone emit a belch.
I have always assumed that it was a recording of John burping, but is there any way to confirm my suspicion or confirm who it actually was?
Thanks so much,
Fab4Fan

Always loved this…It was a B side to Let It Be …….
There was a pub that let us in to drink even in our school uniforms…….My lunch money let me buy a Light and Lime and a pie……..
I had money enough left for the juke box…….It was the only place i could ever hear this song…….My mates hated it……But tough!!

I swear I recall an interview with Paul from many years ago saying this was his favorite Beatle song. Kind of an odd choice, to say the least. But there is a lot going on in it, so I could sort of understand it. Or maybe he was just in a weird mood that day.
They also worked on this song for several years, so maybe he had a lot of memory associations with it, from different times.

I used to hate this song, but it grew on me and now I find myself singing it in the silly voices. No hope now.
They’ll get you. They’ll get you in the end. Yes, they will. They’ll get you in the end. Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah.

He said it in a 1988 interview with Mark Lewisohn for Lewisohn’s The Complete Beatles Recording Sessions…

I can see why Paul likes the song, it’s the memory of the experience as he puts it. Being silly in the studio. I’d love to see footage of those sessions if they ever existed.

I read through all the comments here, and re-listened to the song. Just some thoughts:
I swear I can’t hear bongos or a burp anywhere!
Aside from the fun & zany aspect, which most remarked on, there’s also the artistic Dada thing going on.
Question: the piano gets more “sophisticated” at about 3:00. Is that still Paul playing, or did they have to call in the professional, George Martin?
Oh yeah, it’s one of my favorite Beatles songs.

Aren’t the bongos at the beginning of the ‘Good evening and welcome to Slaggers’ section? The burp is at 4:10 (of the YouTube video).
Paul is listed as playing the piano and he is more than capable.

Ah ok I thought those bongos were just tight tom-toms; they don’t sound like bongos I’m used to from listening to Latin jazz. I still don’t quite hear a burp. It seems it would be difficult to pick out a burp from that delightful cacophany of gibberish!

Hi Doc Proc, welcome to the forum! The burp is at about 4:11 of the “Past Masters ” version, just after the saxophone ends with the little flourish. It’s probably Paul’s belch, since John is busy muttering gibberish
Paul: Yeah well… first of all, we’re bringing out a ‘Stamp Out Detroit’ campaign.

Slaggers? I’ve always heard it as Slacker’s.

It’s definitely “Slaggers”, @Mr. Moonlight. That’s how it always is in lyric books and the sheet music.
From Joe’s article on the song:
The third part was the nightclub section, introduced by Lennon with the words, “Good evening and welcome to Slaggers. Featuring Dennis O’Bell”.

Well, now I’ve learned something. Meaning “one who slags”, I presume.

“Slag” is an English slang term for a woman of “loose morals”.
When it’s a man of “loose morals”, he’s a stud and patted on the back as a lucky so-and-so.
The tale of double standards.
