Where does one start with this excellent slab of John Lennon brilliance? One that Truly Rips, no matter which rendition you prefer, whether it’s one of many highlights of the ‘White Album ‘, The Greatest Album Ever Made:
or this, the first of two High Octane live performances featuring a SuperStar ’60’s lineup of Mitch Mitchell, Keith Richards, Eric Clapton & The Master of Ceremonies Himself, Dr. Winston O’Boogie:
and a Super Heavy ‘Live Peace In Toronto ‘ performance that ranks up there with John’s Heaviest of All-Time:
like I said, “Where does one start”?…:-)

I’d start by trying to eradicate Yoko’s caterwauling over a brilliant EC guitar run.
Gosh I wish Yoko had had a headache that night instead of giving one to the rest of us for all posterity.
I’m guessing that you prefer the Dirty Mac performance where Yoko sits in the audience then, haha. I’m liking the ‘Live Peace In Toronto ‘ version a bit more, I think, Yoko’s “caterwauling” (where’d you dig that one up?!) is relatively low in the mix and somehow finds a nice place lurking in the shadows most suitably amongst the heaviness, in my opinion, she’s feeling it here and sounds more like a third guitar than a Drunken Banshee this time around. I’m a Big Fan of the ‘Live Peace In Toronto ‘ album (except for Side 2 where the “caterwauling” DOES get out of hand, to say the least) for it far outclasses any live recordings by the others post-Beatles, the Band is Bringing It here.
While Yoko didn’t have “a headache that night”, John apparently was vomiting profusely before stepping onstage, a toxic elixir of withdrawal symptoms and heavy nerves as he was about to perform live in front of a large audience (the ‘David Frost’, ‘Rooftop’ & ‘Dirty Mac’ performances of the last year notwithstanding) for the first time in a very long time, the stellar performances of the Rock ‘N’ Roll favourites selected are pure brilliance considering the circumstances, the Band rehearses on the flight over with only John’s “Rock ‘N’ Roll journey” map of going all the way back to ‘Blue Suede Shoes’ while progressing chronologically to the present day ‘Give Peace A Chance ‘ & ‘Cold Turkey ‘, a moment in Rock ‘N’ Roll History that is most underrated and thankfully fully documented in high quality audio & film. With the theme for the Event being a ‘Rock ‘N’ Roll Revival’, John delivered in Flying Colours, even if it did mean sacrificing more of his nervous system in the process…:-)

I read about it and saw the photos in Beatles Monthly of them on the plane rehearsing in their seats.
So excited to hear it.
Went to One stop records in Oxford Street the day of release…..to listen for free. A great fan of Eric and his BEST lick of the night……got ‘Yoko’d.
Never did buy it.
But glad it’s there to dip into…..
Eric sings an unflattering Yoko line in the ‘Pros and Cons of hitchhiking’ Classic solo in that too………And no caterwauling!

Further evidence of just how this piece stands up is the Acoustic Version which is every bit as heavy:
Lennon bares his soul for all to hear on this song, even more so than the ‘Two Virgins ‘ escapade that was to follow…:-)

Ah – if only it was just his soul that he had bared

John thought it would take the edge off. Songfacts writes
John used “yer” instead of “your” in the title so as not to be taken too seriously.

But I still don’t want it to be about someone else.
It is about him…”my”
…not someone else…”your”.

We’ve been discussing its parody aspect in this thread, the title is a direct statement.
I'm like Necko only I'm a bassist ukulele guitar synthesizer kazoo penguin and also everyone. Or is everyone me? Now I'm a confused bassist ukulele guitar synthesizer kazoo penguin everyone who is definitely not @Joe. This has been true for 2016 & 2017 but I may have to get more specific in the future.

I’ve often wondered, in the song, what is the reason he isn’t dead already?“If I ain’t dead already, girl you know the reason why.”
I guess we’d have to ask the girl, as she knows the reason why
I don’t like this song at all btw. No idea why I even went to this thread.

…and Yoko’s vocals don’t bother me in the slightest.
Yoko’s vocals? I guess thats a joke.
Interesting how John made the song more downbeat by changing “feel so insecure just like Dylan’s Mr Jones” on the demo to “feel so suicidal just like Dylan’s Mr Jones” for the studio recording.
Deep analysis there.

Also, a 4-syllable word matches the rhythm better.
“Insecure” may have been a good enough lyric when all John needed was a little “help!”, but it wouldn’t do for a song in which he’s lonely and wants to die.

No, not a joke at all. I love it when Yoko adds her vocals to Beatles songs.

I think mmm thought the joke was about Yoko’s vocals on “Yer Blues ” – joke being that there aren’t any.

Sorry. I’m missing something if its not a joke.
What has Yoko’s singing got to do with ‘Yer Blues ‘ when she doesnt sing on it?

Just watched that “Toronto” version…I don’t mind her “doing her thing” during the guitar solos – it can be effective. Not so much when other people are trying to sing actual lyrics and melody, tho.
Nice acoustic sound on that demo that Billy posted. Now I’m kinda fantasizing about the Beatles having done “Yer Blues ” in Led Zeppelin light-and-shade fashion, with the intro and first verse acoustic, then wham! in come the fuzz guitars and Ringo cymbals. Epic.
