So… of the songs on the official studio albums (to make it easier), what do you think is the worst Beatles song? (I did an advanced search, but if there’s already a thread like this, please tell me.)I think it’s Her Majesty .
Oh, yeah, one more thing: Revolution 9 doesn’t count.

It’s often assumed Paul is nowhere to be seen on Revolution 9 . He and Ringo are always absent from the credits. However, I believe both are present on the track.
We know that R9 was built up around the original last six minutes of what became R1, and we know that Paul and Ringo played on R1. It seems unlikely to me that none of the elements they used from R1 did not feature Paul and Ringo, and so while neither were active participants in its creation, I believe both are musically present on R9.

Revolution 9 started out as Revolution 1 (Take 20) with multiple tape loops placed upon it, so technically Paul plays bass and sings backing vocals, while Ringo plays drums. You can hear a note being strummed as fast as possible and John saying right in Revolution 9 , so this is proof that they’re there. In addition to that, one of the loops contains reversed guitar, performed most likely by George, but could be Paul.

After much pondering, I’ve decided that the worst Beatles songs has to be “Dig It “. The Dig It jam is a nice jam and I very much love it, but “Dig It ” as a Beatles song is a 50 second iTunes preview of what the full song is. I think either the full version (or even the 4 minute version planned for Get Back ) should have been put on Let It Be , or it should have just been left off entirely.

As a kid i always liked Dig It , which was before I had heard the multitude of extended versions in the Twickenham and Apple sessions. I think if I were to criticize an abridged Let It Be song it would have to be Maggie Mae . Dig It reaches a conclusion, whereas Maggie Mae ends abruptly and stunningly. I don’t hate either song.

You Know My Name (Look Up The Number), Wild Honey Pie and Happiness Is A Warm Gun are my least favourite. The first two are basically a ripoff of Revolution 9 !

2 of those are part of the best album ever. I love those two. I also love YKMN(LUTN). It’s so silly, it does remind me of one of the Christmas records.

The White Album is good, but it ain’t the best. MMT is the best!
Also, YKMNLUTN reminds me too much of R9. The nonsense sounds are too much. I can cope with nonsense lyrics, but not nonsense sounds.

MMT is a great movie, but only an okay album. It’s a jack UK album, and shouldn’t really be in the U.K. catalogue.
Also I’m quite the White Album fanatic. I absolutely love that album, and I think it’s one of the best things ever.

I’m the opposite; I don’t like (though I don’t hate) the movie, love MMT as an album (all but Blue Jay Way ), and finds the White Album a bit tedious at times. Of the 30 songs, I only like 8. Not a very good strike rate…

Ahh, I love “Blue Jay Way “! Also I do like MMT, but I don’t think it’s an amazing album as a whole.

I understand where you are coming from. ‘You Know My Name (Look Up The Number)’ is an acquired taste. It’s not for everyone. Perhaps if you read more about the song, you’d appreciate it more. Start with Joe’s article and if you are still interested in learning more about the recording, there are many books written about The Beatles in the studio that you could look into. Personally, I find the song fascinating. I’ll read about some technique or special effect they performed and then listen for it on the recording. I know I am somewhat biased by my love for Mal Evans, but how can one not be intrigued by the song’s musical credit of;
Mal Evans: spade in gravel.
Curious yet? And by the way, the recording of this magical number was started in 1967. A ripoff of ‘Revolution 9 ‘, it was not.

I certainly now understand it more, but I don’t necessarily like it more. In fact, after reading about it, somehow I think I like it less! Basically what I gathered was that it was just them having a bit of fun, and it was never really meant for release.
Mal Evans: spade in gravel is quite possibly the funniest credit, except perhaps for Ringo Starr : Suitcase (Words Of Love ).
What I really meant was Revolution 9 was a ripoff, basically just taking the principle of YKMN(LUTN) and making it worse.
Anyhow, I guess everyone is entitled to their own opinion. I don’t discourage my friends from liking Yesterday , even though I don’t like it, because they are (sometimes) intelligent enough to make up their own mind. That also applies to me, though I’m not saying that you are trying to force me to like YKMN(LUTN), I am saying that I feel quite a lot of people disagree with my opinions, especially that of YKMN(LUTN)!
Having said that, if anyone tries to convince me (which I’m fine with normally, as that is what you just tried to do, @Zig) to like Wild Honey Pie , I will hate you for the rest of my life!

Well, I’m jolly glad it was released, so that those of us who like it can have it, and those of us who don’t can ignore it. Win-win all round!
As for it being an acquired taste, I liked it right off, but that’s just me.

Speaking of funny credits, Mal is credited with ‘tea, sympathy, and tambourine’ on All Things Must Pass , and on the album Black Holes And Revelations by Muse (which I just got for Crimble), there’s a credit of ‘Antique items crushed […] by Tom Kirk’.

Same here. I always love the obscure Beatles songs. I’ll never forget the first time I heard it. First I thought it was “Baby You’re A Rich Man “, then I was getting into that piano bit, then “YOU KNOW MY NAME!!!!!!!” It was great! It totally caught me off guard, and because of that I fell in love with it.

I know these songs are back to back, but I think that Good Night is my least favorite Beatles song, followed by Revolution 9 , followed by Wild Honey Pie , Her Majesty , Dig It , and Maggie Mae (AKA the songs that are so short, they’re worthless), followed by You Know My Name (Look Up The Number) and The Inner Light . I just think it would’ve made more sense to either end the album with Cry Baby Cry and cram it onto a single vinyl, replace the 2 songs with Only A Northern Song , All Together Now , Hey Bulldog , and It’s All Too Much , or replace the 2 songs with Hey Jude . As for The Hole Got Fixed, I must say that your insult of Happiness Is A Warm Gun was depressing to say the least, as it’s a great song.
Maybe you should try posting more.

I didn’t insult it! I was simply saying my opinion!
Also, if you ‘insulted’, or even just said you didn’t like, one of my favourite songs, I wouldn’t find it depressing… I’d find it intriguing as to why, and I’d try find out.
