Yeah, I’m not sure I could ever pick one song out of all the Beatles songs. I mean I am usually terrible at picking favorites in general. There are certain songs that I like better than others on certain days, but they changes so often.

When I saw this thread come up, I went ‘YEEEAHHH‘
this forum.
Anyway, I wholly agree– I’ve never been able to pick a singular favourite; even back in the days that I only had a couple albums, there was always a top four or five. I do go through phases of a particular song– like for about a month a coupla years ago I was obsessed with Here, There And Everywhere , and it’s still one of my favourite songs. When the topic of my Beatlefandom comes up, I am usually asked what my favourite song is (by Some People who Never Know) and I usually respond, ‘All of them’ or ‘I don’t have a favourite, there are too many good ones’. If faced with a Revolver — and not the vinyl kind– I might give a top five, but that’s it. (I’ll have to think what my top five might be… hmm.)
I have the same problem with Pink Floyd, but if asked about them I’ll just say ‘Shine On You Crazy Diamond’ for brevity’s* sake and because I think it’s pretty much the best single song they ever did (even if I have a lot of other favourites).
I think it all comes down to the fact that I suck at picking favourites, period.
*And yes, I appreciate the irony of naming the longest song they ever did ‘for brevity’s sake’. That’s partly why I’d choose it.

When I was in high school, there was a stereo in the room where we had our church youth group, and we would sometimes put our own music on while we played pool. I would always put Pink Floyd on, and people would complain that the songs were so long and the music just went on and on with no vocals. I can remember saying, “We just haven’t gotten to the vocal part yet.”

As SG said, it happens for multiple bands. I can’t pick a favourite song for the Beatles, the Monkees, Cheap Trick, Jimi Hendrix, or just about any band that I love.
If I only like a band it’s easier to have favourite songs (and hated songs). Once you decide to love a band all the material they make has some merit and meaning.
Heck, I only listen to It’s Only Love because of the part around the 1:35 second mark. That part makes me love the whole song.
Now I’ve just ended up not making sense for 3 paragraphs…

I have no recollection of this topic at all, but apparently I already replied 3 and a half years ago.
I don’t have one favourite, no that’s true. I have two: Strawberry Fields Forever and Something . To say you can’t have a favourite song as a hardcore fan, is a ridiculous statement. In fact, I can name you one favourite for any band I really love.

I disagree with the “No” part of the premise – I daresay some hardcore fans have a favourite; though I don’t have one song I prefer to the others at all times. I tend to switch about depending on mood and have none I hate and only a few I’m not keen on.

Hands down my favorite song is Sexy Sadie . No other song does what that song does for me. Theres just something about that song that makes it my favorite.
That being said I get the general point of this thread, however I respectfully disagree.

I consider myself a ‘hardcore’ fan, but I do have a favorite Beatles song: Blackbird . It has wonderful lyrics that aren’t too specific so that it can apply to a multitude of situations. It has one of the most captivating melodies McCartney would ever write, and excellent finger-picking. I think the bird sound effects significantly enhance the overall quality too. On top of all that, it has extreme nostalgia value, because it was probably my most-listened-to song at the age of 6.I could honestly gush on and on about it, but I won’t for the sake of conciseness.
That said, All You Need Is Love and Here Comes The Sun also Coke very, very close to my favorite as well.

What are your favorites when you’re not on coke?
Just kidding. I have my favorites, but I am easily swayed, and when someone else suggests a song, like Blackbird , I often will say “Oh God , I forgot how much I love that one!”

trcanberra, William Shears Campbell, BeatlebugI say in speeches that a plausible mission of artists is to make people appreciate being alive at least a little bit. I am then asked if I know of any artists who pulled that off. I reply, 'The Beatles did'.

A lot of Beatles fans feel that, as a product of their hardcoreness, they find it impossible to pick a singular favourite; others will have no problem doing so, even though they love so many others almost as much. Everyone is different, and their hardcore-fandom-style will be different too. To say that NO HARDCORE FAN CAN HAVE ONE FAVOURITE is a little harsh, I think.

Four lead singers, three songwriters (2 songs from Ringo), Rock N Roll, Vaudeville, Classical Indian, Country, Ballads, Screamers, Psych, Folk, Light Classical, Experimental, Schmaltz, BarrellHouse…How many groups WERE they? Yeah, hard to pick ONE song. That’s why they are who they are. Like the blind men and the elephant, everyone can describe them differently. OK, we’ve got 16 different groups here. Name your favorite song!
