Many people ask me, “Hey, what’s your favourite Beatles song?” I always respond, “All of them.” In my opinion, if you’re a real hardcore Beatles fan, you can’t really have a favourite. The reason why is that you know so much that you can’t pick one. At least that’s my opinion. That goes for both the Beatles together and for their solo years.

I tend to go through phases of obsessing over certain songs or albums in particular, so whenever I’m asked I usually have one or two songs that I’m really into at that moment. Sure enough, if you were to ask me a few days later the answer would be different.

Excellent topic!!
Well the thing is that, if you are a hardcore Beatle fan, you probably like all their periods don’t you? So you probably have a favorite song in each period. That’s why it’s hard to choose a favorite song.
Also it depends on your mood. Right now I’m all Paul break up era. Let it be, Hey Jude , The Long And Winding Road . Ask me next week and I might go for all Ringo.

I dont have 1 favourite song but there are definately songs that i have always loved and never not been in the mood to here (eg No Reply ). There are the songs that have grown on me over the years to adore (eg Till There Was You ). Songs that are fab when they come on but rarely sought out (Michelle ). Ones that are good to hear and that its (eg Ask Me Why ). And finally a very few number of songs that i would only ever listen to if played as part of the album, otherwise they are quickly skipped (Hold Me Tight ).
Solo-wise i have favourites if asked. A whole lot admittedly.

So true, I also go through different Paul, John, George and Ringo phases where I’m in the mood for those particular vocals.
For ages I had a least favourite song, shamefully; for some reason, I just never liked The Long And Winding Road . Until I discovered Let It Be … Naked and found that the reason was Phil Spector. Now I adore that song.

For years i have hated the Spector Across The Universe (still do) but i heard it at its original speed and love that. And then there are outtakes and live tracks and demo’s. It can get quite complicated.

Actually, I’m pretty sure that that would not be an opinion, that’s like a thought, or something else. I don’t think I have a favorite Beatles song either, but I do. I think it changes all the time, like I’ll listen to a song I haven’t heard in a while, or I will just get real keen on any of their songs, then that song will become my “new” favorite Beatles song. Really though, my ultimate favorite Beatles song is just that; it does not change. I do not yet know what song it is though, because I guess I’m still too ignorant. Either that or I’m just really stupid. (I like to think it’s not the later, although I guess I wouldn’t be too surprised if it was.)

I think its just because all of their music is SO good, that you cant pick one thats is the BEST. A hardcore Beatles fan can have a favorite Beatles era, but cannot pick a favourite song. Its like asking what your favourite food is. Its easy to pick out your favorite type of food, but the specific dish is really hard to pick. Also, your favorite Beatles song changes so much! As of now, for me, my favorite song is Michelle , but last week it was A Day In The Life . (probally becuase its the only Beatles song I can decently play on guitar.) So whenever anyone asks me what my favourite Beatles song is, I just reply “their early stuff”. People dont understand how I can be such a big fan and not have a favourite song but thats just how it is.

Off topic: Whoa, Dr. Robert has my old avatar picture. I thought I’d posted this myself without knowing it.
Back to topic: I don’t think it’s impossible to be a hardcore fan and have a favorite song, but I think it’s pretty hard. I have Beatles songs I really like, songs I don’t like as much, and a couple I don’t like at all. I don’t have a “Number One Favorite Beatles Song Of All Time”-type thing though. Then again, it’s next to impossible for me to rank favorite songs in general, out of all music, as well. There are just so many different reasons to love so many different songs.

"What happens to them?" insisted Milo.
"Oddly enough, they often grow ten times the size of everyone else," said Alec thoughtfully, "and I’ve heard that they walk among the stars."

I thought you posted it, too. I realized you didn’t only when I read your post.
Uhmm, I do have favorite songs, favorite periods and even dislike periods. I don’t listen to Across The Universe that much, but when I do, I’m always blown away. And I saw a book called “Across The Universe ” today; it had a really nice cover but based on reading the blup ( I wonder if that’s the right word) it doesn’t seem to have anything to do with the Beatles.
But yeah, why not, why cannot Beatles fans have favorites as well? Half of the songs appeal, in my opinion, comes from the attachment you have towards it.

I was confused because I thought it was Doctor Robert , and that isn’t the sort of thing he’d say.

Is this the book you mean? I work in a bookshop, and I’ve also seen a random romance novel called Lucy In The Sky; I made the same mistake when I first saw them both.
(And I think you meant blurb btw. )

I agree with you somewhat, but I don’t think a true fan can love a band’s entire output equally. I believe that if you have a high level of love for the Beatles, you’re going to have specific things you like and dislike.
I consider myself a hardcore fan, and I have a favourite Beatles song: Long Long Long.

I believe it is very difficult to have a favourite Beatles song because of the diversity of their sound. Tomorrow Never Knows is completely psychedelic, while something like When I’m 64 or Honey Pie is vaudevillian. Helter Skelter is practically metal, while Being for the Benefit of Mr. Kite! is not possible to describe in words. I do as well obsess over certain albums for an average of a week or two. At the moment it is Beatles For Sale , but just last week it was Sgt. Pepper . Just my opinion, very good topic though.

We had about the beatles in english at my school. And the teacher asked me for my favorite song. I looked down at my Abbey Road t-shirt, and asked to you have a lot of time?, or maybe a notebook?
Yes, it’s hard to choose one favourite. I think it’s because the hard core fans (like me and many others) has read tu much about the beatels. And we see them as genious, in despitte that everyone else hate the songs.
But face it… They were amazing and to pick one song is’nt possible

To say no hardcore fan can have a Favourite is wrong. My favourite is While My Guitar Gently Weeps , and I’m quite sure no one would call me not-hardcore.
