I feel the same about Sexy Sadie . I really enjoyed discovering that Paul plays that piano. Best part of the song, and it is quite a song.
I made a Beatles playlist for my car and Sexy Sadie gets played a lot. The way the song winds down at the end is awesome.

The Esher demo:
Take 2 of the initial studio acoustic version (discovered during research for this release):
And Giles’ remix:
All stunning in my opinion.

I dunno… I’d reckon that it’s a 4-way draw for “Best part of the song” honours… All 4 turn in stellar performances during ‘Sexy Sadie ‘ that stretch far beyond what can be measured with modern day physics… this was where they peaked, in my opinion… this is where they consummate the album’s title… The BEATLES… in ALL their glory…:-)

Love the piano on Sexy……Good’n Paul
Love Sexy…….John based the middle 8 on Paul’s chord progression in Here there an Everywhere………So kudos to Paul again
Now as for While MGGW…….Particularly Clapton’s guitar part? It makes the song for me.
I heard the acoustic version that we’re all now familiar with when Abbey Road was opened to the public for the first time and a Beatles lecture was given and various hitherto unheard song versions played. Perhaps because I felt so privileged to hear it then and there it stuck in my mind as truly wonderful version, showing just how great a song it is.
But 2 thoughts……1. I stupidly fell for the story that it wasn’t Clapton at the time. He’d never played that way before. I’d listened to a lot of Clapton’s work from Mayall onwards….Nothing like it before or since…..Clapton in disguise then!. Didn’t sound like George either though. Eddie Clayton they said…nudge nudge wink wink……I noted the ‘EC’ but still passed on it being God himself.
2nd point….So naïvely thinking it wasn’t Clapton, my judgement was therefore not tainted by his status…….Yet I still loved the guitar part.
That’s because…………It’s good.
PS. The above might only count as 1 thought….

This is the WMGGW thread, but yeah…Sexy Sadie is a special song. I dig the final album version with the piano, but I also dig the Anthology Revolution 1 style demo. It’s interesting how John started out as more of a rocker in the early days, but IMO his soulful side rivalled it, or perhaps even surpassed it. The Sexy Sadie demo is a good example as any.

If you know, you know. I love to see Sexy Sadie getting all of this love. Funny how much lower it was ranked on the poll than WMGGW, considering that it has taken over the thread. Hot damn its a great song. But its probably best to

Just for all your information, a cover version of While My Guitar Gently Weeps is played during the end credits of the animated movie, Kubo and the two strings. The guitar in this movie plays a semi-important roll, also the movie has some loosely based Buddhism themes, which are the reasons, I’m guessing that WMGGW was chosen. It is a decent version of the song. I played the movie for my nine year old kid, not watching any of it myself. He then paused the end credits and informed me that I HAD to come see what was on TV. He knew I was a big fan of the song (thanks Beatles Rock Band) and knew I’d want to hear it. I decided right away that I’d have to watch the movie to see what it was all about. It wasn’t bad, actually. My favorite version, (other than The Beatles of course) of WMGGW is the one during the Concert for George. That whole concert was truly AWESOME!

Moments in Time have a handwritten working draft of WMGGW up for sale at $195,000 (approximately £150,000 sterling). Written on the back of a Recording Sheet, it is written by both George and Ringo – with George writing the first line, “I look at You all see the love there thats sleeping – While My Guitar Gently Weeps “, it continues in Ringo’s hand, before returning to George’s hand at the bottom of the page, “While My Guitar Gently Weeps as I’m sitting here doing nothing but aging still my guitar G W”.

This is my favourite George Beatles song – yes, above Something or Here Comes The Sun . Apart from how it sounds I really connect with the message, particularly “as I’m sitting here doing nothing but ageing.”

I can remember thinking at the time that WMGGW was one of the best songs ever. I am sure if you held my vinyl copy up the light, the groves on Side 1/Track 7 would have been worn down to a lighter color than the rest (Track 2 would have been close). The song really represents the awakening that peace and love alone were not going to make it; “I look at the floor and I see it needs sweeping”. Listening to the isolated tracks remind me now of what an epic band effort this recording was. I still have never heard anything like the moaning at the end. John finally comes through for George – check out the organ playing. And Eric…don’t know about him now but his playing then gives me the chills. There are some clearer isolation tracks out there, but this vid puts everything in one place.

Thanks @sigh butterfly
I changed my mind! I just listened to it again with my undivided attention, and I like it a lot! That first Clapton solo is impeccable. The chord changes throughout are more varied and subtler in structure than my memory of them. Lyrics very cool (and acutely ironic for reasons I won’t dwell on here), George’s singing is top par. The moaning at the end is inspired.

I’m glad @Sea Belt (big smile). Through the years the song sort of dropped out off my playlist. The Concert For George put it back! (I had completely forgotten that Paul played piano on the original track too). I listen more to the Esher demo now, but that’s probably due to yours sincerely, wasting away.
