Not really sure where to put this, so I’ll put this here. An unreleased acetate of this song has come up for sale on ebay. You can hear the contents of the disc on the page.
The Beatles – What’s The New Mary Jane 1969 UK UNRELEASED ACETATE HEAR IT !!
It claims to be unreleased, but I’m not aware of all the different mixes of this song available on bootleg (but I know there are several), so I don’t know if this has been heard before.

Yeah nothing new about it, I’ve heard the chat and the mix before, and better quality than an acetate.
I'm like Necko only I'm a bassist ukulele guitar synthesizer kazoo penguin and also everyone. Or is everyone me? Now I'm a confused bassist ukulele guitar synthesizer kazoo penguin everyone who is definitely not @Joe. This has been true for 2016 & 2017 but I may have to get more specific in the future.

I’ve heard several versions of this but I think this actually may be unreleased. I’ve never heard it before.
It’s different because there is more cowbell, more screaming, more people joining in the chorus, and that french horn (?) note that is repeating throughout the song is not on other performances.

Probably heaps, the first I heard it was a 12″ LP made in the 1980s, a friend still has it, with two different mixes on each side and the chat one was on one side, all I think it was called was What’s The New Mary Jane and I dont recall any other details, unfortunately.

My Goodness… ‘bin glossing over many ‘White Album ‘ sessions as of late… many which I’d never had the pleasure of before… but I’ve come to the conclusion that there’s been few that rival this one in the Eternal Search for The “right” Sound… just when I’ve thought that I’ve heard every possible version available (on Earth!) someone points me into the direction of an entire recording session consisting of several unheard takes?!? This is gonna take some time to ponder… the ‘White Album ‘ just took on a whole new meaning for me… perhaps its inclusion on the ‘Anthology’ project was a case of, “either this one or ‘Carnival Of Light ‘?” and the latter likely pales in comparison… absolutely LOVE the version where Yoko is more prominent here… excellent…:-)

Nearly all are alternate mixes from take 4, the only other take out there is an excerpt of take 2 which can be heard on the ‘Anthology’ documentary soundtrack and has since been widely booted.

What’s The New Mary Jane would’ve been a fine substitute for Revolution 9 . In any case, we still have both songs. I love how Good Night follows Revolution 9 and ends the album. It’s like a lullaby after a weird nightmare. It works well.

While the bed tracks are from Take 4… There’s multiple versions with clearly different vocal takes and noticeable differences in the overdubs… There’s a misconception that John & Yoko did a bit of drugs and simply recorded whatever happened but they, in fact, worked real hard on this one… and apparently still didn’t capture the right version which resulted in it being left off of the album… The best version I’ve heard so far is the one where Yoko sings considerably more than on the others… The recording I have consists of several versions (6-7?) but they’re not in the form of separate takes… It’s one long mp3 clocking at well over a half hour… didn’t think that I could handle this song after hearing it only once but I listened to the entire session twice yesterday… I’m still in awe…:-)

I have a boatload of Mary Jane takes. One of my favorite is the acoustic version with harmonies and no avant garde section. I’ve also heard a couple of different vocal takes around the same take 4 arrangement, with several different settings for the madness at the very end. What annoys me is that out of the assortment if bootlegs I own, a few takes are simpley titled “Whats The New Mary Jane, therefore I’m unsure which take it actually is.
Regardless, I friggin love this song.

This looks to be from a little known business venture that fell at the last hurdle… There were stories that the next Beatles’ single following the release of ‘Abbey Road ‘ was to be ‘You Know My Name (Look Up The Number)’ as the A-Side with ‘What’s The New Mary Jane ?’ on the B-Side… I believe that it was a legal snag with the B-Side that prevented it from going out… we ended up getting the A-Side for the ‘Let It Be ‘ single instead… there are rumoured to be a limited amount of “unreleased” copies in circulation…:-)

As nonsensical as it is, it’s a fascinating song that quickly sticks on your brain then keeps on looping in your head. And the genius behind it was just noodling …musically. Think of all the lost noodling melodies he came up with that never got laid down on acetate.
The real annoyance, though, which I must herald out loud, is that I just saw two separate commercials using a very amateur & polluted version of this song in the background . One was paid for by “vote.org” and within minutes the 2nd ad was a Facebook sponsored ad promoting ‘voting’ (while ultimately promoting themselves) with both ads, despite the noble cause, blatantly ripping off JL’s ditty note for note and then looping it repeatedly. Roll over John. I was appalled•••• maybe I’m wrong and they paid Northern Songs? but maybe this one got thru the cracks. Then again, so what, look what they’ve done to my song! Its the same infectious frantic melody which I would think forever remain sacred and untouchable, escaping the unscrupulous raptor of advertising. Like many pop songs repurposed for advertising , they cherry-pick the chorus and disembowel the remains of the song, play the sweet spot chorus over and over, ripping it out of your context, then cleverly associating it with theirs which is a swirl of homogenized manipulative fast food imagery, searing into your brain the new updated, cheapened version that they’ve taken to the depths of the mainstream, dumbed it down, ultimately leaving behind a now tainted adulterated memory successfully conditioning you to think of their product every time you hear the ditty with not a care for the collateral damage they inflict on those who were born and raised on these songs that you never dreamed would be monetized. Once they do, it now sickens you to hear it leaving a foul taste in your mouth, as they replace your own personal experiences evoked by that song with their own nauseating imagery of persuasion. Worse yet, the children walk away thinking the song was written by the advertiser.
Unbelievable. All that’s missing is Lennon’s vocals. God knows who owns the rights and maybe it was shamefully bought and paid for with no mention of credit to the songwriter, but let it be known, it is being used and exploited note for note. Now when I hear it I’ll see happy people of all ilks smiling orgasmically at the voting booths.

I always assumed it referred to marijuana (or cannabis).
According to this website, the term first appeared publicly in print in a 1943 Time magazine article.

Here’s what Joe wrote…
“The title could be interpreted as a reference to marijuana, although the surrealistic lyrics give few solid clues.”

I’m pretty sure its referencing what you think it is. Love this song, its a pretty extreme listen depending on the take but in my opinion the best of any experimental avant guard music that John made.
