At around 1 min and 44 seconds in the song don’t let me down you can hear john saying something. I have tried to decipher it and i have been unsuccessful. This is the recording on the Past Masters .

Good ear.. In one of the books, they say John said “Excuse me” (assumed he passed gas)… Definitely sounds like “It’s in E, baby” (and it is!)
Yep, it is.

Interesting and… thanks for bringing this up for, I must confess… still not sure what bit we’re talking about here but look forward to my next listen of this timeless Beatles’ classic… one of many which seem to get better with every listen…
John’s words were often misinterpreted, as was his person… the question here reminded me of a recent listen of ‘A Day In The Life ‘ where George Martin states that John introduces the “early take” with ‘SugarPlum Ferry’, whilest I still hear ‘SugarBone Ferry’… I first translated the lyrics to ‘I Want To Hold Your Hand ‘ the same as Robert Zimmerman had… John doesn’t help matters by sprinkling WordPlay into everything that he does… TopperMost of The PopperMost indeed…:-)
