One thing that makes me laugh about ‘Working Class Hero ‘ though is that he was not. I was at Mendips on Thursday last week and it’s certainly not a working-class house, I mean, it has a name instead of a number! That tells you all you need to know.

Sorry, I know that was a bit off-topic.

Yeah, I know that John was not working class at all. And maybe I’m wrong, but I always thought that “Working Class Hero ” was meant in an ironic manner. a-hard-days-night-john-1

I haven’t listened to it for ages so I’ll go and put it on now. I suppose you’re probably right anyway. ahdn_george_06

Old thread but here’s to reviving it.

John –

Strawberry Fields Forever – His finest song by a long way. Actually better than A Day In The Life now I think about it.

In My Life – My favourite song of all time. So simple yet packing so much feeling and emotion.

I Want You (She’s So Heavy) – The Beatles’ finest rocker, this song basically enscapualtes everything that was hard and raw about their music.

Paul –

Let It Be – A perfect pop song, the basis for Oasis’ entire career, and possibly the best power ballad ever.

The Abbey Road Medley – I know John contributed a couple songs but this is truly Paul’s creation. It’s ambitious but pulls it off.

Yesterday – A more perfect song has never been recorded.

George –

While My Guitar Gently Weeps – The centrepiece of the White Album : a huge, sprawling rocker with one of the finest solos ever.

Something – A fantastic ballad, with an amazing bridge and beautiful solo.

Here Comes The Sun – Probably George’s most iconic song, with his most pretty melody.

Ringo –

With A Little Help From My Friends – Sure, the other Beatles were better singers, but no other Beatle could have pulled this one off like he did.

Rain & A Day In The Life – his best drum performances. Enough said.

Beatlebug, Von Bontee

I've been up on the mountain, and I've seen his wondrous grace,
I've sat there on the barstool and I've looked him in the face.
He seemed a little haggard, but it did not slow him down,
he was humming to the neon of the universal sound.

I’m going to do this differently, i’m going to do 1 for the song in general, 1 for the instruments, and 1 for something non-musical.

John:

Nowhere Man

This is one of my favorite Beatles songs with it’s 3 part harmonies, Fender Stratocaster, great bassline, and the chord progression and lyrics, and John wrote it, this is the precursor to classics like Strawberry Fields Forever and A Day In The Life and some might even say that it’s better than both of them.

I Want You (She’s So Heavy)

Although both John and George switch between rhythm and lead throughout the song, John plays lead on the solo with his Epiphone Casino and unlike most of his leads which are choppy sounding, he actually does a pretty good solo here, showing that John can play a good blues rock solo.

Beliefs in peace and antiwar

John supports the idea of peace and antiwar which i really like about him because it shows that he’s a great person and cares about peace and love.

Paul:

Hey Jude

While it may seem obvious to pick the most popular song of all time, i’m doing it anyways. This is a great song to sing along to and you can tell that The Beatles were having fun with it too, especially Paul, who was really rocking out there. This song was so good that it was even performed live along with Revolution on the Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour, although only the vocals were performed live whereas the instruments were being mimed to.

Blackbird

Although Paul is a great bassist, he’s also a great guitarist. This song was performed solely by Paul on his acoustic guitar, stomping his foot, and singing and the acoustic guitar in this song is great and beautiful as opposed to his frantic electric guitar playing.

Being cute and musically talented at the same time

Face it, Paul McCartney was cute back in the 1960’s, just look at him

But unlike men like Mark Wahlberg or George Clooney where they lack musical talent, Paul has it both. Paul’s a great singer, bassist, guitarist, and pianist, and can also play many other instruments such as drums and even trumpet.

George:

While My Guitar Gently Weeps

I don’t typically pick favorites easily but this is easily my favorite George song and possibly my favorite Beatles song. This song is great in every way, the vocals, the acoustic guitar, Eric’s guitar, Paul’s bass, the piano solo that starts off the song, this song is perfect, it even has an electric guitar doubling the bass line during the bridge that’s hard to hear but still audible.

Something

This song has a great guitar solo, done by George on his Gibson Les Paul alongside a live orchestra. George Martin made it clear to him that this might not be a good idea but he did it anyways and it turned out really nice.

The youngest Bealte

Being born on 25 February 1943, George is the youngest member of The Beatles and he was only 18 when their 1st single My Bonnie was released and 19 when their first successful single Love Me Do was released.

Ringo:

Yellow Submarine

It may sound weird but this is my favorite Ringo song and i really like this song and the fact that it spawned it’s own animated film says a lot about it.

Strawberry Fields Forever (Take 7 And Edit Piece)

The ending of this song shows Ringo going full blast at his drums and showing us how great of a drummer he is.

Helter Skelter

Since i was having a hard time determine what drum song is Ringo’s best and the only thing non-musical i can think of for Ringo is being in The Simpsons. This song is great, it’s a precursor for heavy metal and punk rock and Ringo really kicks it on the drums, to the point where he gets blisters on his fingers and needs to yell that out at the end of the song, something that you can only hear in stereo, making this song one of the few where the mono mix sucks compared to the stereo version but that’s a discussion for another time.

I’m going to do songs because if I list albums and life achievements then the list would just get convoluted but I will include songs as a Beatle and solo.

John:

Beatle: Strawberry Fields Forever , Tomorrow Never Knows , Help !.

Solo: Imagine , Give Peace A Chance , Happy Xmas (War Is Over)

Paul:

Beatle: Yesterday , Hey Jude , Let It Be .

Solo: Maybe I’m Amazed , Band On The Run , Live And Let Die .

George:

Bealte: Something , Here Comes The Sun , While My Guitar Gently Weeps .

Solo: What Is Life , All Things Must Pass , My Sweet Lord .

Ringo:

Beatle: Yellow Submarine , Octopus’s Garden , With A Little Help From My Friends .

Solo: Photograph, It Don’t Come Easy, Back Off Boogaloo.

And in the end the lunch you take is equal to the lunch you bake.
