I’m about 5000% sure it’s not why they’re saying, but does anyone else hear: “Everybody smokes pot!” repeated at the end there by the backup group?

Its “everybody got one”. I’ve never heard “everybody smoke pot”. The background singers were the Mike Sammes Singers who are also on Goodnight.

Some people always hear “Everybody smoke pot” – as far back as 1967, there were rumours and quotations to that effect. I’ve also seen people attest to hearing “Everybody ha-ha” or “Everybody’s f****d up” or other things. Really, it’s such a jumble of noise that people can be convinced that they’re hearing many different things than what the singers were actually chanting. Like seeing faces in clouds – it’s easy enough to imagine you’re hearing something once someone suggests it. I’ve done it myself!

I remember reading that, but didn’t know they were on good night. And I know it’s not what they’re really saying its just what I choose to make of the jumble of sounds.
I really like the coda, especially the alternating highs and lows RingoStarr39 mentioned.

The female and male singers alternate between “Everybody’s got one, everybody’s got one” and “Oompah, oompah, stick it up your jumper”. Not kidding.
So the men & women alternate between the two verses? Huh, that’s interesting. I always thought the women were given the “Everybody’s got one” and the men, the other phrase.

That’s what I thought too…

So there isn’t going to develop a raging controversy here where some swear it was the Mike Sammes Singers, while others are sure they can hear the Lennon Sisters… and it goes on for months with like 50 pages of detailed arguments and counter-arguments… Like the good old days of the “aahhhs” in A Day In The Life , or the disputed ending of While My Guitar Gently Weeps …?

Don’t think I’m familiar with the “…Gently Weeps” controversy…why, do some people doubt that it’s George moaning during the fade?
Because it is clearly Martha howling

I’ve never heard anything other than “Everybody’s Got One” from the high voices and “Oompah, Ooompah, stick it up your jumper” from the low vooices.
Beatles Rock Band has those two and that’s what I hear on the isolated vocals as well.

Who hears Paul at the end of While My Guitar Gently Weeps ? Is this one of those instances of arguing for the sake of arguing?

Some people just like starting problems… I’m not one of them, but I must say Paul obviously sings Twist And Shout , and he wrote it, not a cover!
