People listening to ‘Blue Jay Way ‘ may wonder how George’s friends got lost – where was their GPS?If driving their sat nav probably took them into a river, up a mountain or down into a creek.
Right. From the neighborhood we just moved away from, our GPS wanted us to drive .4 miles (which would have required us to drive through a chain link fence and concrete retaining wall, up a steep hill, over railroad tracks, down the other side of the steep hill, through another concrete retaining wall and chain link fence) and then turn right. Thanks GPS, but I think I’ll take the long way around.

I think that is a good argument for why cars shouldn’t drive themselves.

I guess you had your GPS set to “military tank” mode.

I bet I’m late here too! I bet when I read all of the posts, someone might have already said this, but I would say “Back In The USSR ” and “Revolution ” are dated, becuase of the time frame. Like the Chairman Mao part, or the fact that they call the Soviet Union, (that is what it’s called currently, right? Russia? Ugh…I hope I got it right, because that would be rude) the USSR. Or in “Revolution ” becuase things have changed, don’t you think? Even a little bit?
@Jolly Jimmy, your post in the “lyrics you would have changed” thread made me think of this thread. I think you might enjoy a scroll through it.

I thought Love Me Do sounded dated when it was released; and She Loves You sounds dated to me now as well.
Yes, a 6-year old felt the song sounded old-fashioned 🙂

“Till There Was You “. Â I kinda cringe when I hear that, although if I can get past that, I do find myself humming to it, or worse singing it!Â
To Quote myself, I love a lot of the Rockers on the first 2 UK albums (“Please Please Me ” & “With The Beatles “), but some of the filler songs sound really dated and very hard for me to listen to sometimes.
I mean songs like: Misery , Anna (Go To Him), Chains , Boys , Do You Want To Know A Secret , A Taste Of Honey & Till There Was You !!!!
I think this is the reason Capitol records put on those great singles on their Albums to make them better records.Â
At least with the A Hard Day’s Night UK LP, they sound less dated, to me anyways……..

Dated or dead? They are all dated…….perhaps the psychedelic hippy trips the most………But there isn’t a song in their ‘canon’ without a glimmer of a pulse.

Long Long Long……..is admittedly on life support!! 555
Long Long Long? For me it’s even more actual today than back then. It’s a song for all the time, universal love kind of thing. Not dated at all.

I sometimes wonder when someone will suggest updating the faces on the Pepper cover. I mean, who are all those weird dead people and aren’t those silly costumes dated? 1960 was 55 years ago. 1964 was 51 years ago. 1967 was 48 years ago, and so on. Not every song the lads wrote is a timeless classic. But then neither are many Cole Porter tunes. I’m a retchedly grumpy defender of Beatle things. Sometimes a thread bites me. Grrr. In the context of their times and peers, everyone from Motown to the Beach Boys , to the Stones, the Byrds and every folkie I knew of, waited for the release of the newest Beatles album to see how far they had pushed the ticket of innovation. The Temptations, Peter, Paul & Mary and Johnnie Rivers actually mentioned them in lyrics. Their faces were on a Stones and a Dylan cover. Dated….Harrummph! Nyaahh!
OK, off to shout out something obscene!

@SaxonMothersSon, Doctor Robert asked me to pass this cup to you. …pause… Feel a little better now?
Think of it this way. The world is happy that Beatles songs sound dated. It is so much better sounding than so much of today’s music. The Beatles music keeps pulling in young people…and older people like me 🙂

They should remove the 4 American Presidents and put the 4 Beatles faces on Mount Rushmore!

Exactly. Â I’m 18 years old, and turned to the Beatles because it isn’t the trash music that’s being played today. Not to mention they have much more meaning behind the songs, and the variety and sound and harmonies is just out of this world. Â Plus the trippiness is pretty awesomeÂ

Like this you could have the Beatles carved in British Rock………and then the ghostly images of Elvis…..Buddy…..Chuck……and Sophie Tucker….55555

In terms of dated, my mind first went to It’s Only Love but that song invented the hash tag rap so that unfortunate fact makes it timeless now.
Â
I think A Taste Of Honey fits the bill. The Do do do do part is something that wouldn’t exist outside of that era. Along with the melody Paul sings is very old timey.
