I haven’t read through the entire thread yet, so i’m not sure if you mean dated as a good or bad thing, but I’ve always thought Something was dated in a good way. It’s like one of those cheesy love songs and the intro always makes me feel like it’s dated. I wonder if that was George’s intention though, he talked about how he always loved music with a bit of a crackle to it, so maybe Something was his attempt at that.

I’m gonna throw “Everybody’s trying to be my baby” into the mix, as well as the majority of the original songs they had on the Live At The BBC album — not counting duplicates, meaning ones that showed up on their later albums.

My first reaction was, “Hey, I love that song!”. Then I saw what I bolded above. That's really not a bad criteria to apply when chosing dated songs. Back then, if a song appeared on any radio show on either side of the Atlantic, the odds are pretty good it was a “pop-py” song…including ETTBMB.
To the fountain of perpetual mirth, let it roll for all its worth. And all the children boogie.

“Back In The USSR ” is certainly lyrically dated, considering that neither BOAC nor the USSR itself even exist anymore.
Another one: “Polythene Pam “, now that the “News Of The World” is no more.
Paul: Yeah well… first of all, we’re bringing out a ‘Stamp Out Detroit’ campaign.

Oh thank you, Joe had said something on his twitter thing about News Of The World being mentioned in a song, but I couldn't think of it to save my life.

Wow, I am kinda slow. Sun King , I didn’t realize that was you the past week or so because you changed your avatar from “With The Beatles ”! I was wondering where you’d gone and I guess I thought your name was just Sun King and not the Coming Together stuff. I didn’t put 2+2 (or 1+1+1) together until I saw how your post count. WOW.

Well, it's not really a good or bad thing. What I mean is songs that basically scream, “TIME PERIOD!” I like your point about “Something ,” though, and I get what you mean when you say it has a bit of crackle.
If I seem to act unkind, it's only me, it's not my mind that is confusing things.

I have to admit, when I first saw this thread, I thought it was going to be some sort of “if you were to date a Beatles song, which one would it be?”
in that case, Something seems like a bit of a romantic. maybe a skeptic, but a romantic. how's Saturday, Something ?
Lol. Well if you get Something , then I want All I’ve Got To Do.

I could pick a lot from the early days, until “Help !”.
But of course, dated doesn't mean bad, does it?

Mister Moonlight with that darn solo is the obvious choice, sounds incredibly lame and old hat. A Taste Of Honey is another that springs to mind. Blue Jay Way also hasnt aged well.
Maybe All You Need Is Love but the lyrics are still very appropriate.

This a fun thread, and it forced me to create a login, etc., since they all sound “dated” to me. On the flip-side, what actually sounds current? To my ears, the recent “Free As A Bird ” and “Real Love ” sound terribly dated, more so than anything else in their catalog.
