I don't mean dated as in old-fashioned or hasn't aged well. I mean dated as in you can easily tell the song was recorded in a certain time period.
This is an interesting thread, M3. Most of their songs, to me, are timeless. But I can see why your mom chose The Word as it sounds like a 60's “call-to-action” song. I get the same feeling while listening to John's Some Time in NYC album where every other song seems to be a protest song.
If I had to pick one original Beatles song that sounds outdated, I'd vote for Mr. Moonlight.
A couple of people mentioned Love Me Do . I guess the fact that it only features 12 words would qualify it as “early 60's simplistic”. There, I've coined a new genre.
*you're counting the words in LMD aren't you?*

“Mr. Moonlight” is an original?
By the way, welcome back! 😀
See? I miss two weeks and I get soft in the head. I should have left out the word original.
Thanks for the “welcome back”. If you want it back, I'll understand.

I bet I'm late here too! I bet when I read all of the posts, someone might have already said this, but I would say “Back In The USSR ” and “Revolution ” are dated, becuase of the time frame. Like the Chairman Mao part, or the fact that they call the Soviet Union, (that is what it's called currently, right? Russia? Ugh…I hope I got it right, because that would be rude) the USSR. Or in “Revolution ” becuase things have changed, don't you think? Even a little bit?
I salute the lady who screamed "I love you Paul!" at a tribute band's concert.

At the risk of going off-topic, the USSR (aka the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics, aka Soviet Union) is now 15 separate countries: Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Estonia, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Latvia, Lithuania, Moldova, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Ukraine, Uzbekistan (thanks Wikipedia).

It was certainly the biggest, and where the power lay. But Paul managed to make the distinction (“The Ukraine girls really knock me out”; “Georgia’s on my mind”) so there’s no harm in being correct.
The following people thank Joe for this post:

WIKIPEDIA IS AN UNRELIABLE SOURCE!
No, it's not. It can be unreliable on “hot” topics or articles that haven't ever been edited, but the better articles are quite accurate. For example, this website is cited on most of the Beatles-related articles I've seen, and there aren't any crazy claims about songs. It depends on which articles you read, and how seriously you take them.
If I seem to act unkind, it's only me, it's not my mind that is confusing things.

For me, Wait is rather dated, in a similar way to The Word .
I strongly agree with Love Me Do , and would add Yellow Submarine , and most of the first four albums and accompanying singles.
Seriously, who deemed Yellow Submarine worthy of an A Side?
I told her I didn’t

I think any thing to come out in 1967. Especially Lucy in the Sky or All You Need Is Love .
'67= Psychedelia + Love + Drugs
Love Me Do as well.
Well we all shine on like the moon, the stars, and the sun.
