Wild Honey Pie is so short, there’s barely any time to form an opinion about it. It’s neither here nor there, and there are far worse songs in the Beatles canon.

I find it works best in context of the track list, when the whole album is played through in full. It’s a brief interlude before the album resumes again. Same thing with Why Don’t We Do It In The Road?
1.The Beatles 2.Sgt. Pepper 3.Abbey Road 4.Magical Mystery Tour 5.Rubber Soul 6.Revolver 7.Help! 8.Let It Be
9.A Hard Day’s Night 10.Please Please Me 11.Beatles For Sale 12.With The Beatles 13.Yellow Submarine

It’s like a little bouncy ball that comes bouncing through the album and bounces away. I like the song.

Yes, like the classical bit before Bungalow Bill or Can You Take Me Back between Cry Baby Cry and Revolution 9 , the motif runs throughout the album. At a time when the Small Faces and others were doing psychedelic-based segue on albums, it’s noteworthy that the Beatles did it outside a psychedelic context.
I'm like Necko only I'm a bassist ukulele guitar synthesizer kazoo penguin and also everyone. Or is everyone me? Now I'm a confused bassist ukulele guitar synthesizer kazoo penguin everyone who is definitely not @Joe. This has been true for 2016 & 2017 but I may have to get more specific in the future.

I had an idea for a fun poll while I was walking yesterday and I might be completely daft and it’d be too stupid to do but…
A poll on the “ratings” of Beatles’ songs, are they overrated, underrated, or their is rating justified. Scores could from 1-10, 1 being completely underrated, nobody knows this song- it should be on a greatest songs collection e.g. What You’re Doing , to 5- deserves its reputation, has a nice public opinion, doesn’t need any more exposure e.g. Back In The USSR , to 10- Yes it’s a Beatles’ song so obviously it’s good but it doesn’t deserve to be held in such acclaim and I don’t know why it is e.g. Hey Jude .
Now this will probably fall apart with songs like Hey Jude , Let It Be , Here Comes The Sun , and I Want To Hold Your Hand probably being crucified while their large bulk of songs which don’t get much/any radio play will all be voted 1s and 2s.
I just thought it was a nice idea, we wouldn’t need to pin it for posterity like the best songs’ list but it might be a fun thing to stage for a week or two.

You see my argument falls apart very easily but I would argue Hey Jude is a great song but it is overplayed and overrated- it’s a great song, it’s not the masterpiece that it’s treated like- cause that title clearly belongs to Maxwell’s Silver Hammer .

Nuh-uh, Hey Bulldog and I Will .
But that’s why the poll would be interesting– I think Hey Jude is appropriately rated, you think it’s overrated, we can see what the public opinion is and it’ll be cool!

I’ve been listening to a Beatles’ podcast (which I really need to do a write-up on ’cause it’s brilliant) and they keep slagging Maxwell, Mr Moonlight and Being For… as the best Beatles’ songs so I guess it’s rolling into the forum. Take everything I say with a soup-ladle of salt.

I’ll be doing the same DO.
If this is going to happen we need to decide on what we’re polling on.
Overrated I thing is the best idea
ie I’d be giving Hey Jude a 9 because musically it’s very boring, however the coda has that cool Eb chord.

^ Yes please and thank you.
And just to settle your worries I would give HMT a 2 or 3, I do like it as a song but it isn’t absolutely amazing which is why it deserves the ‘yes it’s underrated but it’s not good enough to deserve a 1 in underrated IMO’.
