We await your votes with anticipation. Why put off until tomorrow what you can do today? The link is in post two, and voting is easy (apart from deciding on your scores that is!).
We’ve had three votes in the last few hours, busy day for poll compilers, why not make it four?

I completed the poll several hours ago and submitted it, and got this message —
“You will receive a PM shortly on the Beatles Bible forum!”
— but I haven’t received a PM. Where will my PM go — to my email or to my private messages here? I don’t see any PM anywhere!

Have moved the two above posts here so they are in the right place, the other two of the conversation (posts 119 and 120 here) i’ve left as they work better there. Hope that suits one and all.

Well, I did it, and it helped clarify a few things about how I felt about the Beatles canon.
Going through the voting process was an interesting experience. Generally speaking, I don’t like to rate phenomena that 1) have so many things to rate (songs, movies, whatever), and 2) have so many excellent exemplars it makes it nearly impossible for me to choose.
Or so I thought. I found I wasn’t as disabled or frustrated as I thought I might be, having to choose from so many impossibly excellent choices.
And I noticed an interesting thing happening to me psychologically. I told myself beforehand to reserve a “9” for songs that are basically “the best” of the bunch, the “cream of the crop” — while a “10” would be even more staggeringly, amazingly, impossibly better than that.
With that in mind, I only gave a 10 to a song if I had an immediate, overwhelming certitude the INSTANT I saw the title. If my mind hestitated even for a split-second — I would realize that “it’s not really a 10 — it’s a 9!”
This helped me separate the wheat from the chaff — or more accurately, the diamonds from the rubies. For example, the instant I saw “Penny Lane ” I just knew — that’s a 10. But “Things We Said Today ” I hesitated for a nano-second with my finger on the trigger — therefore, a 9. I was ruthless. I only gave tens to songs I had ZERO HESITATION about.
Beyond that (or below that), I had to use a more conventional thought process of actually grading degrees. But once I had passed the hurdle of the sound barrier of the stratospheric nines and the transcendent tens, I could think more clearly in the earthly orbit of just “good” songs.
P.S.: My tastes are a bit eclectic. For example, songs like “All Together Now ” and “Wild Honey Pie ” are 10s for me, while “For You Blue ” and “Across The Universe ” while great, didn’t even merit a 9 (I realize that the vast majority of Beatle Biblers would blanch at such a thought…).

‘ATU’ didnt get anywhere near a 9 nor did ‘Penny Lane ‘ from me. ‘Hold Me Tight ‘ got a 1, i’m sure you’re all surprised. It’s on a Beatles album, it shouldn’t be on a Beatles album.

According to you.
I wish people’d stop stating their opinions as fact.

I thought that it was obvious it was my opinion. Same as when folk write x song is rubbish, they dont need to write “in my opinion” first for folk to know that its their opinion. I’m not going to write “in my opinion” before i say if i think a song is crap is not. I dont know of any song in the word where its a fact its crap.

Oh, here it is. I couldn’t find the thread. It’s in a different place than the other one. Anyway, I just voted. Didn’t receive a PM yet. If I didn’t really remember a song I assumed it was because it’s not very good.
Did you get your PM from Ron Nasty?

I’m not sure if it should be moved. For all those not expecting it to be here, there are those exactly where it is, and would be thrown if it was moved elsewhere.
