What I think works against LLL where it is is that it is so very quiet, so muted. Even with playing HS at full blast, it feels (to me) like a song that needs turning up. If I were ordering that side of the album, I would have dropped it between I Will and Everybody’s Got Something to Hide.
I think the whole point of the song is that its meant to be quiet; its a song of sorrow, sadness, longing, regret, contemplation, self-questioning, anger, relief, honesty and determination. The bare emotions displayed would be a quiet voice going over all that had gone before, trying to understand all that had happened and then at the end collapsing in relief at finding what had been lost. The only moment of any loudness is the anger George has at all the time and tears wasted, the honesty at what is so badly needed and the final cry of angst.
To want it to be louder throughout misses the point.

I like the song. I think it sounds great. I just think it’s placement on the album is slightly wrong.

I think Helter Skelter is too noisy, so I like the fact that there is a nice, quiet number afterward.

And that quote has nothing to do with what I’m saying, @meanmistermustard. That is Paul talking about whether it should have been a single or double album.
For a change of pace after Helter Skelter , I think Revolution 1 being the track after works fine. I do understand that people disagree, but don’t use quotes out of context though. Paul certainly isn’t addressing my thoughts here about the placement of Long Long Long.

Yeah I know what Paul was saying that about. I watched the TV series. It was a light hearted use of a quote.
“It’s only words and that is all,
Why should they always be in exact context?
Its only words and that is all,
so i used one in the wrong place.”

Well, my clock is telling me it’s the 3rd, and so here we go again. More results!
=146 (244) Another Girl
Money (That’s What I Want)
Roll Over Beethoven
=143 (245) I Call Your Name
The Long And Winding Road
Love Me Do [single version]
142 (246) When I’m Sixty-Four
=140 (247) Any Time At All
You Really Got A Hold On Me
139 (248) Tell Me Why
138 (249) She’s A Woman
137 (250) Baby’s In Black
136 (252) Long Tall Sally
135 (253) I’ll Be Back
=133 (254) I’ll Follow The Sun
Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da
=131 (257) Baby, You’re a Rich Man
It’s Only Love
So, bar one, we wave goodbye to the covers with this selection, and we discover just two points separate the two versions of Love Me Do . We lose some biggies here (in my opinion). Several would be my Top 75. We’re getting to the nitty gritty though, and so many are just a point here and there, maybe everywhere! Sad to see that some of these aren’t higher though.
@Starr Shine? will post the next set on the 6th.

Hell, no! It was just my turn. AD40 had Piggies in the last list. Once I saw the results, I worked them out into groups, and then alternated them. I only get 6-4 in the Top 10! Though there’s every chance I’ll be asking Anna to include comments from me. Just the way it worked out when I found the easiest way to split the results.

MANY songs i like have now been knocked out of the top 100.
But since I really like 150 or so of their songs, inevitably some won’t make the cut.
McCartney hasn’t made Maxwell’s Silver Hammer part of his set list in a long time (I’d say hardly ever), so on some level I’d say he agrees with the Forum. But Ob La Di-OLD is a regular – and a great crowd pleaser. So the low ranking surprises me.
Rocky Racoon is a classic of sorts, so that surprises me also – though the comments in the Forum make it clear that as a group we don’t care for McCartney when he decides to have a little fun. He’s got to rock or be serious.
The Long And Winding Road is a solid song though not fabulous. Macca often plays it in concert, so he clearly likes it (or it means something to him).
The ratings are so tight, that all things being equal I’ve got to score a cover a bit lower. They aren’t Beatle songs as much as songs that are written by the band.
And I differentiate between my favorite songs and songs that are great maybe because I love them but also because the impact they’ve had, their lasting quality, how they’ve become part of our culture, etc…

I find the latest results set to be so unremarkable that I’m not even going to run down the list, just make a couple comments:
Nobody should be surprised that I think You’ve Really Got A Hold on Me should be the “Last Cover Standing.” But I suspect whichever one is left will come soon. Ob-La-Di could be higher, but I really can’t get too fussy.

Yeah, a point makes a bigger difference than I’d anticipated, maybe because I figured there would be more entries…he first 90 songs spanned about 120 total votes, and we know the remaining 138 songs will be crammed into 133 potential vote totals (or something very close to those numbers).
I wonder not if but how many songs got all 10s. Because I’m now confident there will be at least one. I also feel that the chances of us picking a single winner are small – less than the odds that there will be no perfect scores. Therefore, there will be at least 2 top scores.

Meh, they were both pretty awesome at Ziggo Dome.
I don’t think I’ll comment on the latest list of casualties, at least not in detail. It’s so sad to see so many favourites end up this low…

OH MY GOSH LOOK ANNADOG40 EXPRESSED A PERSONAL OPINION
She’s not herself! She still has some leftover vonbontee potion in her system!
When these lists come out, I look over them and shake my head in bemusement as everyone finds something to complain about on them. In attempting to suit everyone who voted they suit no one. And anyway, worth is subjective. As if how a tune comes up on a poll affects one’s personal enjoyment of the tune!
Apologies, your Grace…
