I’m reading how members employed different methods to refine and calibrate their choices and how they held the awarding a 10 in reserve……for only a few blessed songs…….

My voting was the complete opposite…….

Votes from me:

1. 3

2. 8

3. 9

4. 11

5. 15

6. 32

7. 22

8. 24

9. 37

10. 58

For me there was nothing rarefied about giving a 10……What can I say? I’m a fan!!

119 songs were given an 8, 9 or a 10. It’s not just about clever production ‘Strawberry Fields’……it’s about the warmth these lads put ‘In My Life ‘ for ‘This Boy ‘ anyway…..Oh ‘Yes it bleeding is’

How can I separate songs as different but as wonderful as say ‘If I Fell ‘, ‘A Day In The Life ‘, ‘Eleanor Rigby ‘ or Paperback Writer ??

I know what song I would choose if I could only choose 1…….Fortunately we didn’t have to do that.

Anyway….There you go…Should all average out.

Wow, 58 10’s. I think next time I will award 58 1’s just to even things out.

Never occurred to me to rate a song a zero or that I even could. Every song got a mark.

58 10’s!! In total I dont think i gave 20 songs above an 8 mark.

For some reason people don’t like ‘What Goes On ‘. Why, i have no idea. Sheer pig ignorance?

I don’t have any issues with What Goes On at all! I probably gave it a 7 or 8. I honestly can’t remember them all, but I’m quite sure all (or at least most) of Ringo’s songs received a passing grade. I do know Boys was a 9 on my list.

That was an error – I’ve corrected the latest post (but the one about the previous set of results remains in error), as the lowest possible grade was a 1. But as I was reviewing my votes, I was surprised at just how harsh I was (apparently compared to most of the other voters), giving many songs 1s and 2s. Those grades don’t mean I don’t love the songs, only that they are at the bottom of the Beatles songbook imo. If I was to superimpose my Beatles song rankings on the rest of the world’s music, all these would be shifted about 3 points upwards (so a Beatles ‘1’ is an overall ‘4’). Also note my calling Kansas City /Hey-Hey-Hey a George song. I’m pretty absentminded if you haven’t noticed, I blame chronic insomnia. The last week has been especially bad, but I got 6 hours this morning, so I’m reasonably clearheaded after two cups of tea 🙂

I believe you didnt have to rate songs which i suppose is the same as giving them a zero. Why you would chose to do so is something i don’t understand.

While not strictly a zero, more than one person decided not to score all 220. The effect of that could be seen as them having scored those titles they didn’t score a zero.

EDIT: LOL! meanmistermustard’s wasn’t there when I logged in to post this reply. I know some of those who didn’t score all 220 did so because they didn’t feel familiar enough with certain songs to offer a fair judgement.

I can’t imagine giving only 20 songs 9 or 10. Which just goes to show how differently we approached the voting. I concur with those who’ve said it will all average out – the fact that I underweighed the middle songs compared to my fellows will be balanced by someone who underweighed the extremes (perhaps you, mmm).

I was thinking there would probably be several songs tied for the top spot. But one low vote (and I could be a culprit, as I gave low marks to a couple widely loved songs) will make a big difference in those highest rankings. For a song to average 8, a single 5 vote requires 3 9s to keep the average. One 2 vote virtually guarantees it won’t make #1. Each individual’s votes carry far more weight than I’d anticipated. OTOH we forumpudlians don’t always agree with the general public on which songs are the best. It’ll sure be interesting!

AG said she is interested to see how her votes will change next year. I too wonder how mine will change – I’ve already seen several I wish I had scored higher, thanks to the comments, and then my personal faves (as measured by how often I listen to or skip them) are always changing. How could I have given Twist And Shout a 3? *gives self a damn good whacking*

I’m surprised we haven’t seen Revolution 9 yet. Bet it’s in the next result set. Oh how the pollsters are tantalizing us – I’m considering learning to hack just so I can get all the results now!

These are my problems with this list:

Blue Jay Way , Flying and It’s Only A Northern Song should not have scored lower than any song in this list other than possibly All Together Now , I Don’t Want To Spoil The Party , Her Majesty or Doctor Robert . You Know My Name should have been waaaaay at the bottom of the rankings. It scored way too high. Also, I Wanna Be Your Man should be at least at the bottom of this list.

These are my problems with this list:

Blue Jay Way is at 216.  It should be higher.  So should Flying , I’ll Cry Instead , and Don’t Bother Me .

Now I’m looking for names, RN and AD40! I want a list of everyone who scored Every Little Thing lower than an 8.

And I’m waiting for one of my top 10 songs to fall outside the top 20.

I wonder how our rankings will compare with the Beatles 1 album. If this group of 39 voters had been the listeners in the 1960’s would we have picked the same #1s?
