Don’t understand what Norwegian Wood is doing here. It’s a good song, but c’mon, it’s not better than Yesterday or something like that.

I wish we could keep these results hidden from Paul, his family, and all of MPL.

You’re not the only one, @Ahhh Girl. I think Tracey Ullman has dibs on him.
I say in speeches that a plausible mission of artists is to make people appreciate being alive at least a little bit. I am then asked if I know of any artists who pulled that off. I reply, 'The Beatles did'.

Got nothin’ but love for Paul. Seeing him play Yesterday in concert in 1990 was one of the highlights of all my musical experiences. 60,000 people held their breath while he played and sang with that aching in his voice for times that have passed. When he finished he held his guitar high over his head while we all screamed in full Beatlemania. Even Linda was jumping up and down and ran up to give him a hug. I feel uplifted just thinking about how great it was.

When I did the poll I honestly gave no thought to the singer……..and was equally surprised that John dominated my top heavy 10 list.
I think MMM has a very valid point with his comment that some songs suffered because, we are always hearing them……so we stop hearing them.
Paul’s songs and to an extent George’s best songs are covered more than John’s. He can take comfort in that.

Paul’s seem to be the most played; more often than not on the radio its one of a certain grouping of Paul’s main Beatles tracks that are aired – and usually from ‘1’.
A lot of the top beatles tracks lists are either compiled by people who work for publications which frequently remain with what is deemed to be the common consensus or combine the results with many voters who aren’t as familiar with the deeper cuts in the cannon and rate the more well known tracks higher. Maybe that attributes to some of the results being vastly different, well Paul’s at least.

As a group there aren’t too many surprises for me in that top 25, it is nice to see that all Beatle periods are represented (nothing from Let It Be , but we aren’t an average group of Beatle fans). The interesting thing is that there’s less of Revolver than I expected. And to be fair, a number of the Johns had significant Paul input which helped make them great Johns, so Paul doesn’t lose out to the extent he doesn’t have a greater representation of his own stuff.
meanmistermustard:
Interesting that the tracks often said to be George and John’s best and most popular Beatles tracks remain (‘Across The Universe ‘ would be the one big absentee for John) yet many of Paul’s have gone by – ‘Yesterday ‘, ‘Hey Jude ‘, ‘Let It Be ‘, ‘The Long And Winding Road ‘, ‘We Can Work It Out ‘. I wonder if its more down to being overplayed.
I’ve been wondering about that and the only thing I can come up with is that Paul’s stuff sounds easy and unchallenging when it isn’t and John’s stuff sounds more angsty and difficult than it actually is, so John gets more points for memorability. Hence the impression of being overplayed, where arguably some of those Johns are easily as overplayed as any Pauls.

How did I skip Don’t Let Me Down . Hmmmmmm. Thought it was a little too high up!
A Day In The Life , The Medley, Strawberry Fields Forever , In My Life and maybe While My Guitar Gently Weeps OR Something are the top 5 as my new guess.

RECOUNT! RECOUNT!Sure here’s the “recount”
1 – Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da (99999999998 points)
2 – Piggies (99999999997 points)
3 – Mr. Moonlight (99999999999999999999996 points)
Wow we were Way off
Mr. Moonlight takes the top spot by 9999999999989999999998 points…hmm…I’ll never understand this “new math” of AD40s ;)…I’d bet the following relationship holds in this example: Where a,b, and c = the points garnered by Ob-La-Di, Piggies , and Moonlight respectively, a > b > c, for any a,b,c.

Like Zig, Hey Bulldog is in my top 10, so another down. That leaves 6, and maybe I’m amazed at how generic I feel lol. And we probably all got at least 2 of the top consensus 10 in our top 10, except for the real nonconformists.
=045 (308) Please Please Me – I would have expected this a bit higher
She Came In Through The Bathroom Window – I’m surprised that so many medley songs are top 50, I’m pretty confident about where it will end up.
Two of Us
044 (310) Yesterday – I’m ok with it here – I don’t like it as much as others (at least, all the others who covered it! – well, and the others who voted!).
=037 (311) Come Together – I (along with maybe some others) killed this one. Had I given it the average vote, it would have placed 6 spots higher.
Helter Skelter – My dislike of this has lessened, but I’d still ike to see it around 80…
I Want To Hold Your Hand – This is a good spot for this – all these songs are really great, It’s So Hard to pick which should come out on top.
Sgt. Pepper ‘s Lonely Hearts Club Band – I think this is too high
She Said She Said – I really like this song, but I think it’s too high – just too many better songs.
Taxman – Again, I just love this one…but we’ve already eliminated a few better songs.
036 (313) I Feel Fine – This is a great song but I just don’t see it inside the top 50.
035 (314) Girl – I can handle this, but I could have handled it being a big higher just as easily!
=033 (315) Hey Jude – I don’t like this nearly as much as the rest of the world, perhaps because it was way overplayed when I was 7 (by dad, not the radio)
Sgt. Pepper ‘s Lonely Hearts Club Band (Reprise) – Unlike the album opener, I’m fine with it here.
032 (316) Because – a lovely song, in about the right spot.
031 (317) For No One – a nice surprise to find this one at 31 🙂
=028 (318) Here, There And Everywhere – Top 30…and deserving of the rank.
She Loves You – of their “classic oldies”, this one falls below say, I Want To Hold Your Hand , Please Please Me , and All My Loving (imo of course)
You’ve Got To Hide Your Love Away – I don’t skip many songs, but I usually skip this one. A top 30 spot wasted, in my book.
=026 (319) Hey Bulldog – like I said, a top 10. Still, 26 ain’t bad.
You Never Give Me Your Money – A good spot for this one. The remaining medley song deserves its top spot in what I think will be at least a tie for #1 (I don’t really expect it, but I wouldn’t be shocked if the last individual medley song shares or owns #1, even over the entire medley).

I keep thinking of @C.R.A.’s signature.
“Send John out first; he’s the one they want.”
~ George Harrison
Memphis, 1966
I guess we could re-do it to

If I may, a little history behind choosing that sig… I’m reading Tune In and I’m at the part of the story where “we’re more popular than Jesus” has been in the wind for awhile, along with all the record burnings and all the threats… As they’re landing in Memphis, Lewisohn aptly describes the palpable tension aboard the plane (after a terrible flight) amid the dark concerns for their safety in the Heart of Dixie. The door opens and there’s this pregnant hesitation to deplane.
Cue Mr. Harrison.
In spite of all the praise heaped on Lennon for his rapier wit, I’ve always found George to be the sharpest knife in the drawer.
