You’re Going To Lose That Girl , Eight Days A Week , I’m Looking Through You , and And I Love Her scored better than Don’t Let Me Down and Julia ? Hmmm…..Personally, I think many of the best songs have already been left behind. Of course, I’m not really keeping track of what goodies are left, but I’m beginning to wonder if the closer we get to # 1 the more trite the songs will be.

Another 9 wither on the vine…’On the Vine, on the vine,on the vine”
Yesterday it occurred to me to tot up my ’10’s’ per Beatle. It shouldn’t have surprised me but it actually did. When I allocated scores I allowed only seconds for a judgement ………Overwhelmingly, emotional reactions led the way……..but some were logical or historical. A song like, ‘All You Need Is Love ‘ was given a ’10’ more for what it meant and it’s context than that I love the song……I played the B side much more often.
Songs like Day Tripper ….Although Paul is way up in the mix I give to John……’We Can Work It Out ‘ I shared because of John’s, ‘Life is very short’ (and it was). Some songs like ‘I wanna Hold your Hand?’ I don’t know who wrote or was responsible for what so I shared it.
‘She’s Leaving Home ‘ has some John but I give it to Paul and so on……Out of my profligate fifty8……(It may need some refining)..There were 30 John songs…….21 Paul, 3 George sung songs and 4 shared……including A Day In The Life …….before you go ‘ARRRRRHH’ melodically (as Paul did) it’s only fair he gets the credit he’s due.
I always knew I was a John man, but this list has confirmed it for me. Good too, because I was staring to go off him a bit, the more I read on here and learned about the others…..
Of the songs today……What a standard!!! Great great songs…….But hey still many more to come.
Glad to see ‘Hey Bulldog ‘ still sniffing around…. I’ll be sad when he get’s ‘put down’

Any song in the top 100 has to have serious merit. But I agree with the comments regarding Let It Be .
65 Beatle songs are better than Let It Be ???
We can argue about No Reply vs Don’t Let Me Down – but Let It Be doesn’t make the top 10 or even the top 20?
Geez… Simple but poignant melody and lyrics… a worldwide classic … I’d love to know what makes the Forum participants relatively disdainful of that song (compared to the 65 ranked better). Maybe heard it on the radio once too many times?
But, hey, I’m happy to see Hey Bulldog still around.

I could understand if Let It Be and Hey Bulldog were reversed; now I’m scratching my head.

I put Let It Be around 50-60 on my personal list so I think it is where it deserves to be, but boy I am surprised it actually ended up this low!!! Maybe it’s due to familiarity or the fact there are better Macca ballads out there. How this was placed above Carry That Weight or the Reprise is a bit head scratching though.
Out of my top 10 Beatles songs, only I Want You (She’s So Heavy), If I Needed Someone and The Night Before have gone which is good.
My guesses for the top 10 (at the moment, and in no order)
– A Day In The Life
– Hey Jude
– Abbey Road Medley (IIRC this was a vote??)
– Here Comes The Sun
– In My Life
– Eleanor Rigby
– Something
– While My Guitar Gently Weeps
– Strawberry Fields Forever
– I Am The Walrus

Pity I wasn’t in time to vote this time round, i’ve just seen two of my top five in that last batch. Lady Madonna & Get Back . Today my top five would be Lady Madonna , Get Back , Love You To , From Me To You & Paperback Writer , in no particular order. With Please Please Me & Back In The USSR bubbling under, as you say.

I’ve also after 40 odd years become a fan of Please Please Me ……Thanks to Paul including it in his live set a while back…..Hope it goes far.
As for Let it Be….my feeling is that for any fan that lived through the Beatles….LIB was connected at the hip to the break up and we don’t have all that fond memories of it……. At least I don’t.

I think Atlas, er, Wigwam, hit the nail on the head. LIB always seemed just sad to me. Not only because of its historical context, but because of its dolorous tone, somnolent pace and depressing, fin de siècle lyrics. How high can you rate sadness?
I say in speeches that a plausible mission of artists is to make people appreciate being alive at least a little bit. I am then asked if I know of any artists who pulled that off. I reply, 'The Beatles did'.

If I hadn’t been so shocked and focused by Let It Be ‘s low ranking, I’d have also commented on Lady Madonna at 88 with an average score of just 7.2 (and we collectively think 87 Beatle songs are better)
When this is over, I’ll ask Ron Nasty and Annadog 40 to see if there were clear demographic fault lines:
Did people in the US vote differently?
How about the older vs the younger? How about those of us with dark hair vs light hair (or no hair)?

It’s still one of my favorite Forum moments when @zig arranged a mini concert for a couple of us to demonstrate the similarities of Hey Bulldog and Lady Madonna . I love ’em both.

The similarities are interesting as I’m indifferent to the first but love the second. I wonder which differences make me feel that way.

Heh, I never would have noticed the similiarity on my own. Hey Bulldog is in my top 10 and Lady Madonna is outside my top 100…I blame the words to Madonna, but the melody turns me off too, while I like the words to Bulldog and how it rocks :)…but they definitely have their likenesses. Funny how that works…

Can’t say any of these get any initial reaction. Probably about right overall.
No idea how anyone would see Ringo’s best Beatle track to be ‘With A Little Help From My Friends ‘ tho. Aside from one moment (0:39 – 0:40) I’ve never cared for it.
Re ‘Lady Madonna ‘ what grabs me is Ringo’s drums, they sound fantastic.

‘And Your Bird Can Sing ‘ I thought was quietly a people’s favourite and might have fared even better…….’If I Fell ‘ is one of my toppermost thought it might be higher…….But all these songs made a decent showing. Nice to see the love for ‘I should have known better’
Warming up nicely………Bulldog is still trotting along…..

Another few of my favourites bite the dust. Oh well, I suppose this high up in the list, we only have favourites to lose anyroad.
@Ron Nasty Do you still have the individual scores? If you do, could you send me mine so I can see which of my favourites still remain? I understand if you can’t.
