Matt Busby, Into the Sky with DiamondsI say in speeches that a plausible mission of artists is to make people appreciate being alive at least a little bit. I am then asked if I know of any artists who pulled that off. I reply, 'The Beatles did'.

YRGAHOM is my favorite cover. I’m sad to see it knocked out so early, but I understand it’s not for everybody.
So far, my Top 10 songs are still alive.

Nothing shocking here. Ob-La could be a little higher maybe, but for the most part these songs should rank much lower.
A little higher? More like SHOULD BE NUMBER 1! Why is Baby in Black and I’ll Follow The Sun so low?

‘Ob-La-Di/Da’ is a real love/hate track in the Beatles canon so its no surprise it ends in the middle of the pack, same with most of the others, the same could be argued for ‘TLAWR’. ‘YRGAHOM’ is an early cover and the general rating of early Beatles and covers is to do so to a medium to low marking (i marked it highly but did so with a number of covers); its why all of the covers end up where they go – it doesnt help that even the fans mark them lower because their not original tracks.
So no surprises.

I’m with you on Baby’s In Black . John and Paul singing into the same microphone – what’s not to love?

Please Mister Postman is still remaining.
We only have three songs from Beatles For Sale remaining (No Reply , I’m A Loser & Eight Days A Week ), three from Please Please Me (I Saw Her Standing There , Please Please Me & Twist And Shout ), three from With the Beatles (It Won’t Be Long , All My Loving & Please Mister Postman ) and two from Yellow Submarine (title track & Hey Bulldog ).
Yet Sgt. Pepper ‘s, Revolver and Abbey Road are nearly untouched!

Not a huge “Ballad of J and Y” fan, but it WAS a #1 hit. (So was “From Me To You ” but I agree that it doesn’t belong in the top 100).
All 3 White Album songs at #112-113 I would have put somewhere in the top 100; same for Martha.

Coming in late but up to the previous two installments, I wasn’t surprised by the trend of voting. It is fascinating that given a freely-weighted poll, most voters opted to vote down songs they valued less in a similar way to other styles of poll. So we have many of the earlier efforts and many of the Ringo/George songs down there, as if fictitious room had to be made for the “good” songs. But as we approach the “middle”, we are getting some very interesting choices.
I’m surprised by the list of George compositions at this level; my guess is that there has been some reappraisal of their worth, but I agree with many that Long Long Long is in an odd place compared to I’m Happy Just To Dance With You for instance. Old Brown Shoe should be higher, of course. But George is often misunderstood 🙁 I find it difficult to understand why a comedic classic like You Know My Name (Look Up The Number) should be lower than the throwaway You Can’t Do That , but I too am often misunderstood 🙁 Octopus’s Garden isn’t just a fun song, it’s also a terrific piece of musicianship. Boo, I say again, boo!
