Well, strap in, Forumpudlians, we’re off!
This thread is for both results and the discussion thereof. To ensure that the results can always be easily found among the discussion, after the second set of results have been posted on the 25th, I will include a copy of the results as they stand in this first post.
I still recommend you read the actual results posts as @Starr Shine? and I are unlikely to resist commenting on the results in those posts. This post will just contain an easy reference list of the results so that people don’t have to search through posts to find a particular result.
So, a total of 39 people took part (we thank you all), giving a total possible score of 390. The number that appears in brackets is the score the title(s) in that position got.

For me, the most interesting result is poor old Wild Honey Pie ! Last in Faceo’s poll, and last in this one. It really isn’t liked much by people on this forum. The Run-Out Groove, a couple of seconds of gibberish, beat it by ten points, and not everybody scored that! Also interesting to see three Ringo covers down at the bottom, with just a single point separating them (and two of those I love).

I would say the first 8 tracks are not a surprise in how low they appear (only the actual placements being debatable). All of them (bar the run out groove as to many its barely worth mentioning) are frequently listed as examples of the poorer Beatles tracks with ‘Little Child ”s lyrics being often thought of as creepy. The others are covers and to many little more than meh (Ringo’s vocal being an (unfair) automatic points deduction).
Shame about ‘Wild Honey Pie ‘, members of the fan club will be disappointed.

The only one I passionately, wildly disagree with for such a low rating is “Wild Honey Pie ” — I love that song.

It is interesting that Wild Honey Pie scored dead last on both polls. I’m not sure what I gave it but it wasn’t in the cellar – a 3 I think. Hard to believe The Run Out Groove scored higher. I also ranked Dig It much higher than the average forumpudlian, after all I got my sn from it 🙂 Well actually I guess I didn’t score it higher than the average voter, but it ranked well above 208th in my rankings – probably around 150th. I think maybe people didn’t use the lower rankings as much, as even the lowest song had almost a 3.5 average rank, and I ranked a lot (about 30 I think) of songs 3 and under. Not because I think they’re bad, I was just trying to use the entire 10 points of the scale.
And I totally agree about the Ringo songs. Of course most Ringo songs are going to be in the bottom 100, but 3 in the bottom 12? I like Honey Don’t and Act Naturally a lot, and I have sentimental reasons for liking Chains . Matchbox is such a great song I ranked it higher, even if the performance (at least Ringo’s vocals) are lacking – I think there are some songs by all 3 that are less And Boys , one of my least favorite Ringo songs, is still unrevealed!
Give me the names of the voters – off with their heads!

WHP will suffer from the majority giving it a very low mark whereas only a few will likely rate it anywhere close to than a 5 or 6. If all 39 rated it then its average is a shade less than 3.5, the often derided ‘Revolution 9 ‘ is at 4.3.

WHP only got 38 votes so it’s a little less than 3.6

Deserved ranking.
I recall commenting on the numerous versions on the BBC iTunes release as Paul tried to whip his less-than-enthusiastic backing band into a fervour over this very ordinary song 🙂

I couldn’t agree more here. This song actually irritates me a little bit, the chorus “A Taste Of Honey (A Taste Of Honey )” – that echo just sounds too contrived. I know it was kind of “in fashion” back then, but that was back then 😉

As Matt knows, I am a Dig It brother, having also taken my SN from its deathless lyrics. I didn’t let weepy sentimentality keep me from rating it a “1”, though. It is a throwaway POS, without a doubt. On the day he wrote Dig It , I’ll bet John put more care and thought into brushing his teeth than he did “writing” that song.
The interesting thing about Matt’s description is that he said he “was just trying to use the entire 10 points of the scale.” I didn’t do that, I just called them as I saw them, without any regard to relativity. (Sorry, Einstein).

Mr. Kite, Matt BusbyI say in speeches that a plausible mission of artists is to make people appreciate being alive at least a little bit. I am then asked if I know of any artists who pulled that off. I reply, 'The Beatles did'.

Agree with ‘ATOH’; on a number of the BBC recordings John sounded so bored doing the backing vocals and he was right. Its such a dreary track and the studio version is no better.
