There’s a long article about it on Beatlesrarities this week.
I think they gave up on this pretty quickly. As the answering greek chorus ‘Ohh Ohhs’ suggest they didn’t take it seriously.
It gives some credence to your canon argument. They didn’t consider it worthy. Well worthy enough for PJ Proby. That way there was some dosh to be made….But not for Ringo, or to go out under their name.
Instead we got the wonderful Act Naturally …………….We can all take a view on those songs relative merits.

For some reason I can explain, I can really hear current day Paul’s voice while listening to this song. Could he sing it now, @Mademoiselle Kitty >^..^<?
I can listen to this song on repeat for a long time…the one on Anthology.

When you ask, ‘could he do it now,’ do you mean to ask if he plays it live, or whether he’d be able to?
Because I definitely think the latter is a ‘yes’. It’s not a complicated vocal. I’m not sure I agree I can hear his current voice, though. I haven’t listened to it in a while. Not consciously, in any case. Love the song though. That’s one of the songs I wish they’d perfected and released on an album!
I doubt he’s ever performed it live; not as a solo artist anyway. But then he might have, I don’t know.

I was wondering about the vocal range, etc. I would like to hear him sing it now.

It’s well within his current vocal range, so that shouldn’t be a problem at all. I’d like to hear him sing it too!

I take it that the reference to ‘She Loves You ‘ was designed when written.
“But/And when she says she loves you, that means a lot”

probably intentional. i think That Means A Lot is a better song than She Loves You because of Paul’s soaring vocals. it is really one of his best.

Agreed. I really love this song. Shame a finished, polished version never made it on any studio album

I think it’s anther example of a song not really working despite Paul trying to push it thru. Thankfully, they ditched it for better as otherwise the album would have been worse. It’s a far better song than ‘Hold Me Tight ‘ (the obvious example of a forced Paul track) but that’s not to be unexpected, a goat being milked on top of a Beatles instrumental backing track would have been better than ‘HMT’.
