You mean the Red Special.
Good point, he uses this as his electric guitar for every song except for Long Away (12 string, Red for the solo), Crazy Little Thing Called Love (Fender Esquire), and a couple of other songs.
It’s a good thing my other favorite thing about The Beatles is their music, of which Queen was very influenced by and i think that Queen has great music.

According to http://www.politicalcompass.org/music, Taxman is in the libertarian right.
You and I both, Taxman .

Interesting idea. I might put Revolution through the same thing.

Revolution is kind of just pacifist, though. I guess it’s kind of libertarian. I dunno.

I would say it’s libertarian left, since I think the message is revolutionary but not authoritarian. Similar to Taxman in that sense, I suppose.

It’s funny Taxman has never been a big favourite of mine………..Even though reading through I found I’ve contributed a couple of posts it’s not a song I care much about…BUT…
The good thing about this site is that it piques your interest…….Improves your appreciation.
Next time I put ‘Scutageman’, ‘Batman’, Taxman on it will have my full attention

I just love the whole idea of George opening the album.

Yes absolutely! And it’s such a legendary song too. It really proved George’s worth as a songwriter (though he’d already proved that quite well 😉 )

It’s also pretty cool how explicitly political this song was… not sure if any other bands were doing anything like calling out Prime Ministers by name in their songs at this point. Myself and others have previously called this song an early example proto-punk, and the more punk I listen to the more accurate the comparison is, I think.

Whilst this topic is active.
An alternate mix surfaced about a year to 18 months ago that fits between the Anthology take (11) and the final version. The most notable different is the ending which plays out with the basic track (so, longer than take 11 which ends cold), obviously in place so they could then add in the guitar solo over it for a fade out.
Well worth seeking out.

Just listened to this song again today and the lyric “My advice to those who die, declare the pennies on your eyes” stuck out. I just love the wordplay of it. Really clever insult, very high brow.
I always appreciate a clever roast, and this song is good for quite a few. Definitely one of my favorite Beatles lyrics.

Like how Savoy Truffle is taunting Eric Clapton about sweets he can’t eat because of his dental problems. I know that’s not Taxman but definitely another good George insult.
