I had to go back and listen to the song after this discussion — and yeah, it was “Chairman Mao and Richard Nixon” who are also seen dancing naked on the album cover (yikes!)…. the later lyric compares Manson and the Pope (as well as Raquel Welch and Jerry Rubin )
Now that I’m thinking of this… didn’t George say something about the Pope owning 71% of General Motors in “Awaiting On You All “? (I figure the Pope is a quasi-politician so he fits in this category — he IS a head of state.)
I've got nothing to say, but it's okay..

@Expert Textpert quoted in another thread
I read that this song may have been influenced by the theme to Batman.
This is possible because the first series starring Adam West as Batman started in January 1966 although it wasn’t shown in Britain until May 1966, the month after ‘Taxman ‘ was recorded.
Steve Turner, A Hard Day’s Write
Was that where you heard it?
So if George had been watching television in America (I’ve heard he didn’t fancy American TV) in early 1966, he might have picked up on the Batman theme song. If I remember correctly, they spent the first part of 1966 hanging round Surrey, smoking pot, getting married, and generally resting up from the previous mad years. So it doesn’t sound very likely…
Hey George! Can you come back from the spirit world to answer a quick question about a song you wrote nearly fifty years ago?
Edit:
I just took the time to read the first page of this thread… oh well.

‘PIPH’NY MOMENT
Today, just now, for the first time, I heard the ‘little Indian bit’ in the guitar solo that they keep talking about. I had never heard it before. It’s that little descending trill before it jumps back up and finishes *taxmaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaan*.
BRILLIANT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I suspect that Paul played the solo with the tape running a bit slow, so that the result comes out sounding faster than was actually played.

I’ve read more than one source on Taxman being inspired by the Batman theme. I believe it. The part that George copped is the background vocals that screech “Taxman !” at the end of every verse – it’s the same as the screeching “Batman!” which is the only word in the Batman TV theme song.
Hear the song this way:
Let me tell you how it will be – BATMAN!
There’s one for you nineteen for me – BATMAN!
"She looks more like him than I do."

Yeah, the phrasing is kind of similar, but the timeline makes it somewhat unlikely. I don’t know of George Harrison ever claiming that he was thinking of Batman. George Martin supposedly did say something to that effect, but he also used to say that his string arrangement for “Eleanor Rigby ” was influenced by Bernard Herrmann’s score for “Fahrenheit 451”, despite the film’s being released after the recording, so his memory can’t always be trusted.
Still, who really knows? Could be so.

Well 800 years ago today the Magna Carta, (Great Charter) was sealed…….
In those days Tax was called ‘scutage’………I wonder what George would have made of that??
Anyway, to commemorate this great day in the history of the English speaking peoples……(Though it was written in Latin and first translated into French)….here’s an educational clip.
I’m positive George would have enjoyed at this……….

I read a comment in the “songs” section in this site (not in the forum, but in the songs’ comments section) that George did play bass on this song, so now i’m really intrigued about this, as i have always enjoyed this bass line (and the whole track) and always thought that Paul was in charge. So any clue about this would be very welcome.

The bass is Paul. The basic track is George playing a distorted lead/rhythm guitar, Paul on bass, Ringo on drums. All accounts I’ve read agree on this.
The trouble with The Beatles is that people seem to come up with their own theories in spite of the evidence, and those people are nearly always impossible to persuade that they’re getting it wrong (as some infamous threads on the forum show). Even those who were directly involved often get things wrong.
It could be that, in the mind of the person who made the comment, because Paul played the lead guitar solos, then George must be on bass. But Paul’s lead was overdubbed. I very much doubt the person who made the comment cited any sources.

The stereo mix of this song is horrible
backing track on the left, vocals on the right aka the sh!tty early/mid 60’s stereo mix that for some reason weren’t rejiggered for the ’09 remasters.
Taxman surely deserves better than this?

The reason is simple, the 2009 Remasters were just that – the original masters remastered. While there is definitely an argument to return to the original and remix them, as they did with the Yellow Submarine Songtrack , they could not claim to be original, and the job of the 2009 Remasters was to present as accurately as possible to how it was originally released.
They’d already got their fingers burnt once by fan reaction when they released George Martin stereo remixes of Help ! and Rubber Soul in 1987, and though they kept the GM remixes for the remasters (by that time those were the mixes many were familiar with, and they included the original stereo mixes in the mono box), they were not about to make the same mistake again – and face the same accusations that they rewriting history.
Were the music to be remixed, and as I say there is an argument for that, they would have to present it in a completely different way.

It’s a real shame they didn’t reproduce the Stereo CD covers, like they did with the mono covers. Same thing withe the 2012 Stereo LP set versus the 2104 mono LP set.
It was a big disappointment to me, but I guess you can’t please everyone. Like I mention here a lot, keeps reissuing reissues after reissues after reissues, after reissues…………
