Has anyone ever sat down and listed the various background muttering, words or shouts in Beatles tracks, e.g. “Cranberry sauce”, etc.? Or the debate on the spoken words between Polythene Pam and SCITTBW. If I only had the time . . . .!

Nope i’ve never really been bothered to try listening to the hidden spoken words in a lot of their songs. Revolution 9 is practically all spoken word though and I can recite a few of the lines…..number 9, number 9, number 9

They loved to include studio chatter. Their accents make it a really enjoyable listen. I’ve never gone through and written it all down, but I have listened to all of it.

I like that stuff too, it’s interesting to hear The Beatles speaking and it’s great how unlike other people like the BBC, they preserved a lot of stuff because they knew that people would want to hear it later on. Even Carnival Of Light wasn’t thrown away.
If you're reading this, you are looking for something to do.

I have. I find it fascinating hearing them. The most famous should be John, tho some say it was Paul, uttering “F*****g hell” at just before the 3 minute mark in ‘Hey Jude ‘. Arm, leg & foot in ‘Ob-La-Di/Da’ is fabulous too.

One of the things I like is when they left guide vocals/exclamations in on rhythm tracks, from the very deliberate use in Yer Blues to the serendipitous in I Want You (She’s So Heavy), but also the middle of A Day In The Life , and of course cranberry sauce was a similar jape.

Now I'm a confused bassist ukulele guitar synthesizer kazoo penguin everyone who is definitely not @Joe. This has been true for 2016 & 2017 but I may have to get more specific in the future.

That’s always so cool, indeed! Although I’m not sure whether it is on the rhythm track, I really like George saying da da da da and then counting in after the instrumental break in Within You Without You .

That got “cleaned up” in the new remix, which saddened me and is a bit confusing, given they not only kept in Lennon’s “never believe it!” at the end of Lovely Rita , they made it easier to hear clearly!

Yeah, that’s quite a pity. I’ve listened to the track at least ten times because I thought I somehow missed it until it occurred to me that the muttering could have been removed.
‘Yawn Paul!’ about five seconds before Paul actually yawns in I’m Only Sleeping is also cool!
