wow I have never heard this version.. though George's voice sounds like s**t, it's a good one. I like the guitars. It's a perfect lazy Summer evening, beer-bbq song._Thanks for sharing it!

George had a very severe throat infection/illness, not that i can remember the exact name of it, during the '74 North America(?) tour. Nowadays gigs would have been cancelled and George would have recovered during the break, but he kept going till the endwith his voice getting worse and worse.
For a variety of reasons, one being the altering of the words of In My Life to show more of George's spiritual side, George and the tour were very heavily slated leading to a deep bitterness and no more gigs until Japan 1991.

A search on youtube found me this. It seems to be some sort of tribute concert, there are a lot of people on the stage by the end. Hope it helps.
That's the one. Thanks Kelicopter!

In terms of thread topic, this is really interesting to wonder about. Could you picture John singing Helter Skelter ?

Or George. How would that go?

There is a French bootleg (i think its French) that gathered together about 70 minutes of individual Beatles singing other Beatles songs and later solo tracks so for example John singing Uncle Albert , Paul doing Strawberry Fields. The Inner Light was on it and i’m sure it was John in 1971 on that hotel tape. But its not in Joe’s entry for it so maybe it was the Get Back sessions. Damn, i wish i could remember the name of the bootleg.
Found it

John’s rendition of The Inner Light must have been from the Get Back sessions, DDSI 28.16

From what i can remember it was a very enjoyable bootleg. Despite the sound quality being average, and that was in the late Nineties so god knows what it will sound like today, and the performances largely uninspired and brief it was one i played often on my Sony portable discman.
If you manage to trace a copy i’d appreciate a link.

I enjoyed that version of John singing Get Back , it’s a bit wacky.
How does that bootleg thing work? Looks as if you can’t download anything, or was that exactly what mmm was saying? In that case I’d appreciate a link too if anyone finds it!

This is pretty cool. John singing ‘Devil In Her Heart ‘ on the 7th January 1969 during the ‘Get Back ‘ rehearsals at Twickenham (4:50 onwards).
