Coming Up p sure this isn’t anything surprising tho. It slaps live.
Is slapping a good thing? Would have thought it was bad as who wants to be slapped (let’s not actually discuss that)?

Wasn’t Rock And Roll Music done in one take with George Martin on the keys?? That would be considered live!

Regardless, it needs more Cowbell!
There is an alternate mix with a different keyboard part so it couldn’t have been a one-take performance; they may have released the first take however.

I have always found the relatively rare versions of Help by The Beatles (not McCartney and unfortunately due to MDC never from Lennon) to be really raw and full of the ‘pleading’ and I suppose primal emotion that most likely went into the emotive composition of this song—-not the use of three syllable words as Lennon had promised Maureen Cleave (citation missing) but the actual cry for HELP that underscores the song. I have heard a few versions on Youtube and definitely there is one or maybe two live versions on Beatles Anthology that just SHREAD.
Can’t say the same about the rare solo version of Come Together that Lennon and reverb laden and 1970s overblown backing band did of Come Together .
So yes HELP certainly better live though maybe not consistently so.
It would have been an interesting sound and spectacle indeed if John had even cautiously approached the McCartney touring MACHINE (1971-2020s+?)
If he had succeeded which I doubt he would have, just due to his nerves, his laziness and his probable ill health post 1980s, it would have been the best thing to ever hit music, period. Short of a live Beatles 1980’s or 90’s tour!

Welcome to the forum, @ziggysawdustman — as a Bowie fan, I dig your username!
I do recall reading about the Maureen Cleave thing you mentioned in the book A Hard Day’s Write by Steve Turner.

The three sentence word you talk about is actually four syllables – ‘independence’, in the line ‘my independence seems to vanish in the haze’.
Can’t remember which exact interview it was though…
